Hi,

If I was to buy this GPU, would I need to upgrade my PSU?

My PSU is a Corsair RM1000x 80+ Gold, I'm thinking it does due to it only having the PCIe 8-pin (6+2) and not a 1 x 16-pin PCIe?

If I need a PSU upgrade which Corsair PSU would you recommend, my full build is on my specs section.

i don't know all the ins and outs of the 4090 as I don't own one.

I think you would need
  1. either a power supply with a native 12VHPWR 16 pin connector. These are somewhat rare I think. I know the seasonic 1300 and 1600's have these.
  2. A standard power supply that has 2 or 3 PCI-e 8 pin cables (1 or 2 with the daisy chain pigtail) to connect 4x 8 pin connectors to the adapter cable to take that to a 16 pin connector on the video card.
Note: I don't think it's really recommended on these high power cards to use the daisy chain cables. I would probably only do this myself if I had 3 x 8 pin powers and 2 of them were dedicated and 1 used the daisy chain.

I do agree with @pparks1 re daisy chaining cables for the latest Nvidia GPUs like the 4080 and 4090

The card comes with an adapter to combine three 8 pin (or 6+2 pin) PCI-E outputs to an 12VHPWR one.

Corsair also sells a cable that would circumvent any need to use an adapter.

It is very good. The only games I play are Age of Empires 2 and 3. Also, MS Flight Simulator at 4k which gives the computer a hard time. The 7900 XTX handles MSFS with aplomb.

It's recommended to use one cable per PCI-E power connector on the graphics card. (Don't use both connectors on a cable that has 2.) Using 2 connectors on a cable may not lead to disaster, though.

I'm no expert on this but had to look into it recently for the teenager. I believe the 4070ti is faster than the 4080 super, and also cheaper. 800 psu is fine for it.

Edit - apparently I'm incorrect - I was just looking at the top numbers on here :-) Further down it says the 4080 super is faster for 3D and rendering.

the higher the better, so from being the best to worst ( Not going to include TI or Super variants i'd be there all day) 4090, 4080,4070,4060 are the main 4 ranges in nvidia gpu's. Also, User benchmark has to be one of the worst websites for benchmarks, sorry!

Yep pretty much just shows the higher the number/higher in the series the better the card performance, Its a bit vague though so if i was buying one of these for Gaming, I'd be looking at benchmarks between the two cards that i was lookingat, at my particular res on a per game basis, in a vs like manner. Same if i was looking at content creation etc
