Error 0x80071772 Opening Encrypted Files

Hi everyone, I've been lurking this forum for years and finally had a worthy question of posting about! I just upgraded to a Lenovo T14 ThinkPad with Windows 11. So far, the transition from my old Lenovo laptop has been going well, but the one thing that I can't seem to figure out is a weird error that I'm getting with an encrypted file.

For context, I use 7-Zip as my zip file manager and I've got a .txt file that I've zipped and encrypted with a password. However, when opening that file on my new computer, I get this Error 0x80071772 (see attachment). I've googled the internet to figure out if its something to do with my permissions or 7-Zip itself, but nothing I've tried works.

Do you all have any idea what might be causing this error and how I can resolve it?

It's encrypted to your old device.

Don't reformat or reinstall your old Lenovo!! You need to migrate the EFS encryption certificate from the old PC.

Thanks for the reply. @garlin so I should follow the steps in the links you attached? I was thinking is it not just possible to take the text file out of the encrypted zip file on my old computer, copy it to like Google Drive and then re-encrypt it on my new computer?

Let's step back. Did you use the Encrypted Folders feature in Windows, or only encrypt ZIP archives when you added files to them?

If the only encryption is done by 7-Zip, then use 7-Zip on the destination to extract the ZIP. The currently updated version of W11 has added enhanced ZIP and other archive format support. But if you're using 7-Zip, then it's better to continue using 7-Zip throughout for consistency, as Windows' version may not handle all of 7-Zip's advanced features.

If you used Encrypted Folders, and zipping files protected inside them, then you need to follow the tutorials on exporting the encryption key.

Oh boom! That worked LOL I just needed to set 7-Zip as my default .zip file manager and then opened the file through that. I originally did the "add to archive" for 7-zip, totally forgot as I had thought I used windows encryption. Thank you so much :)
