I believe I have discovered the solution for my problem.
The solution was to disconnect my computer from my Microsoft account. (After signing in to your Microsoft account, go to Devices > Remove device.)
Since I uninstalled the OneDrive app (correctly) shortly after receiving my computer, and...
If someone cannot presume to know what I know and what I don’t, then how about this:
"Perhaps you were unaware that there is a series of steps to perform before uninstalling the OneDrive app. There's more to it than uninstalling the app. If you were not aware, I will be glad to explain."
I've...
I use Google Drive too, but not the Google Drive app. (I don't believe I've ever installed it.)
It might be Microsoft's doing, since they are insistent about people using their OneDrive. But I don't have the facts, so I can't put the blame on them.
As others have experienced, I started to see green checkmarks on my desktop shortcuts:
Ordinarily, this means that the files are backed up on OneDrive. Problem: I uninstalled the OneDrive app more than a year ago. It has not returned (I checked.) Other times I see little file boxes:
Nice. But...
Thanks for everyone's ideas. I have decided to forgo an AV rescue disk and rely instead on my backups.
Cybersecurity is a particular interest of mine, and I learned that a computer that has been compromised by malware can no longer be trusted, even if you are able to recover from the attack.
For many years I've had a (Kaspersky) antivirus rescue utility on a USB flash drive. The idea is that you have something you can boot to that will (hopefully) remove malware when the malware has made your computer unbootable.
I have never needed to use it, fortunately, but just for the heck of...
Thanks for everyone's help. After further research I learned that the Taskbar calendar we all remember is now integrated with notifications and focus. This is a not-so-subtle example of Microsoft pushing users to work with its products whether you like it or not. There's no workaround, as others...
Can I remove the notifications pane and its accompanying bell-shaped icon from the Taskbar? I have disabled all notifications, as well as 'do not disturb' and focus. If the Focus bar can also be removed, I'd like that too. I am aware of this group policy: User config > Admin templates > Start...
My brand new Windows 11 PC was delivered with Modern Standby (S0 Lower Power Idle) Network Connected. I'm thinking of changing this to Network Disconnected, for the simple reason that I don't want updates from Microsoft to be installed during my chosen Active Hours, even when the computer is...
Thank you, thank you!
I have been dealing with this exact issue ever since I received my new Windows 11 computer, just 6 weeks ago.
I read through the entire thread and was so interested in the development of the group effort towards a resolution. Props to Eleven Forums (and its predecessors)...
TA DA!
Thank you. I was afraid that I had one of those rare and unusual problems that defies solution, but the link you provided was comprehensive and resulted in the solution to my problem!
Props to Eleven Forum (and its predecessors, which I have been following for many years) for assembling...
Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a definitive solution on the internet for my issue, just compilations of guesses that websites publish (and copy from each other. :giggle:)
For myself, I solved the problem by disabling Sleep, which I consider unneeded for my desktop PC. The straw that...
