  1. Solved Reboot troubles

I previously turned it off via Windows settings. Does it make a difference doing in BIOS? I'm now trying to avoid rebooting unless I have to. There's work to do and I have to wait until I have some dedicated time for more troubleshooting.
  2. Solved Reboot troubles

Unfortunately that didn't happen. I managed to get into a Diagnostics screen by pressing F12 during boot, and it's running as we speak (the diagnostics). This is after Dell's Support Assist scan and troubleshooting. This machine just doesn't want to reboot anymore, but I'm working on it. EDIT...
  3. Solved Reboot troubles

I held down Fn while pressing the power button at the same time. The Dell logo is on the screen and is hanging there. Am I supposed to be seeing something else, or are the diagnostics running in the background while the logo is showing?
  4. Solved Reboot troubles

Thank you so much for these troubleshooting options. This will take a bit of time, so I have to wait until I can dedicate that time to it. But when I do, I'll post back with the results. Please allow a day or two for it to happen. Thanks again! I can say that I have turned off fast startup...
  5. Solved Reboot troubles

Thanks. I run nightly backups on everything, so I'm covered there. I secretly suspect the hard drive, too, but I'm keeping it quiet, lol. Done. And I will try not to reboot the machine for as long as possible. I feel like each time is closer to death.
  6. Solved Reboot troubles

The past few times I've rebooted my desktop, it hangs on the Dell logo and never finishes rebooting. I have to shut it down manually, wait a few minutes, and start it up again. Usually it then finishes booting up. Except for a few days ago... After shutting down and restarting, it booted to the...

  8. Solved Windows acquisition for Linux laptop

Good news! I was able to install Windows 10 without a hitch, and upgraded to 11 no problem. All good, thanks everyone for their help!
  9. Solved Windows acquisition for Linux laptop

Just had a thought - perhaps a bad one, lol - as I've never tried something like this before: If I make a disk image of my current 11, can I simply put it on the new laptop?
  10. Solved Windows acquisition for Linux laptop

Thanks everyone. Lots of good ideas here. My friend says Windows 10 was originally on it. I do have a MS account, so I'll try installing 10 and see what happens. Hopefully it can upgrade to 11 after that. The laptop can support it.
  11. Solved Windows acquisition for Linux laptop

Awesome. Yes, the plan is to pay, but I won't be able to until next month. Thanks!
  12. Solved Windows acquisition for Linux laptop

A friend wants to sell his Linux loaded laptop for almost nothing, which is hard to resist. Is there a way to legally get Windows for free (temporarily) so I can install it on that machine?
  13. Phantom Facebook window during ctrl+Tab

    I did, but no results.
  14. Phantom Facebook window during ctrl+Tab

Yeah, the problem there is I can't drag it while I'm doing ctrl+Tab, which is the only time the phantom "tab" shows up.
  15. Phantom Facebook window during ctrl+Tab

I only use the Web version of FB. The app is not installed In Task Manager, there is no Facebook process. Next time I post an issue I'll be sure to write that novel. But I fully expect someone, somewhere, will ask something that I already wrote in that novel. LOL (it happens) hmmm... I do use...
