Quick update at 3 min with two restarts.
Strange my File Explorer still opens upward. But don't get me wrong, I don't really care as I never use the dots link.
Just updated my HP Elitebook G3 to 24H2 from 23H2. First time using Rufus and everything worked with no problems. Very impressed (and relieved!).
Thanks to the Rufus builders.
Well, I might as well tell how it got fixed. I read a way of getting it back was to pwr down, remove pwr plug, then hold the pwr button down for 30 seconds.
Much to my surprise it worked!
Who says computers aren't weird?
Maybe just a coincidence I got TPM problems now. Looks like I am in trouble as no TPM seen on BIOS and Dell giving BIG warning on boot.
Will get off this thread as likely a coincidence - or not!!!!!!
My Dell 3060 on 24H2 is now getting heaps of red dot TPM errors with this update. TPM encountered a non-recoverable error....... For further help contact the computer manufacturer.
Doesn't sound good.
Ironic, as this is my only comp with a TPM pass for Win 11!
Jimbo, I didn't see you had noted this:-
Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, Network, Lanman Workstation
Double click on "Enable Insecure Guest Logons"
Set this to "Enabled"
Click on OK.
Thanks @Ghot.
It's working so far!
Darned annoying that I had to install it though. I would still like to find out what caused the problem. So many years with not seeing this on multiple machines, until now.
I hope we find out what caused it.
I have a second hand HP Laptop and it came with a very nobbly power lead.
Wonder if it could happen if the outer sheath was shrunk by leaving it in the sun or close to another heat source?
Maybe another Tutorial from Brink could help here?
