Well...issue resolved itself...for now. I just got back from travel and went to take a look at it again...with your above advice. It was showing as SSD again...good. There was a monthly update on Tuesday so it's possible that it fixed it. Hopefully it doesn't come back:)
I'm on travel right now but as soon as I'm home later this week I'll try out your recommendations. As for the drive itself, I believe it is a 2TB Crucial X9 (can't remember if Pro or not).
I never had an issue before. However, some bug in Windows 11 24H2 now has my wife's Crucial external SSD recognized as a HDD...which means it doesn't TRIM and I'm definitely not comfortable "defragging" it. I have tried the winsat formal command (that only seems to affect the internal SSD) as...
I have always experienced memory leak with File Explorer. I read it is common. However, I have never had mine use that much. Mine usually tops out in the 200 - 300 MB range. Killing the task temporarily brings it back down.
I'm not seeing anything in event viewer. It only does it on my laptop...desktop is fine. I just did a Windows 11 Network reset but I doubt that is the issue or will fix anything. As steveg said...it is more an annoyance than anything.
Yep...assuming that each of those profiles is different, they should simply be the SSID. Even though I only have one saved network, I'll end up with lots of them...the same name but with a number after. Something keeps triggering Windows to add a profile for the same name but with a number...
I recently deleted them...when they build up again I'll take a screenshot. Basically, if you go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\NetworkList\Profiles it shows all of the network profiles you have used. There should only be one for each connection. However...
In NetworkList (Registry) Windows keeps creating new profiles...seemingly everytime I restart my computer...i.e. Network name with a # after it. The list can get quite long and I need to manually go in from time to time to delete them...to get the Wi-fi profile to show correctly without a #...
Fortunately, on both of my machines (older desktop and 11th Gen Intel Dell XPS laptop), 24H2 performance and efficiency has started to feel like 23H2 prior to upgrade. I was an early adopter of 24H2 and in addition to original issues, the first several monthly updates (cumulative and previews)...
Thanks for the quick response. Are both of these apps specifically for deleting locked files or can you open locked folders (i.e. system/trusted installer, etc) to view contents too...without having to go through all of the "take ownership" steps?
I used to use Unlocker but 1) it has not been in development for many years and 2) it now triggers Windows Defender alarms. Is there a recommended alternative that others use for opening locked folders or deleting stubborn folders/files? Lockhunter and Iobit Unlocker seem to show up regularly...
Ok...thanks. I had to search through my "library" in Microsoft Store and found that there have been two versions of that software installed at some point. I installed both of them...and then used Revo to uninstall both of them. At this time the orphan entry is not there...fingers crossed...
I will try that again but I tried that once already (including using Revo). It removed the "duplicate" icon that is created but the original orphaned icon remained.
I found something similar for Windows 10 but the instructions to fix don't seem to apply. I removed MaxxAudioPro from my laptop. It left an orphaned icon in my Start Menu. How do I delete it? I have tried:
- Delete and let Windows remake the icon cache...didn't work
- Item doesn't have an...
