  1. Latest Windows update has reset my folder options. Can I set them back en masse?

Sorry, misread the post and thought it was a complaint about MS mucking up the settings! Reminder to self: Don't reply to posts before reading twice!
  2. Latest Windows update has reset my folder options. Can I set them back en masse?

@Tester and @LesFerch thanks for the recommendation of WinSetView. It's a shame that we need it, but it did exactly what I wanted (and some more!).
  3. Latest Windows update has reset my folder options. Can I set them back en masse?

Because that's what someone at Microsoft decided you wanted. Just because you think you want something else doesn't mean you're right. Don't you realise, we are all too stupid to know what we want, so need Mummy Microsoft to set things up for us 😎.
  4. Latest Windows update has reset my folder options. Can I set them back en masse?

Sigh, another Windows update, another blanket "reset all the user's customisation, 'cos what does the user know about what they want?" I had my music folder (and all the zillions of folders underneath it) set to show details, which includes the meta tags and duration, ordered by track number...
  5. Windows Media Player gives an error "We can't open Whatever.mp3. You don't havepermission to access the file." even though I have permission

Yeah, I'm coming to that conclusion myself. Even the previous version (so-called "legacy" now) was better than the new one, and that's saying something! Will take a look at those, thanks
  6. Windows Media Player gives an error "We can't open Whatever.mp3. You don't havepermission to access the file." even though I have permission

Thanks. That seems to have fixed it for this playlist. Is there any reason that I shouldn't do this for my top-level Music folder, as opposed to having to go through each subfolder and add them individually? 112501.9.0 Thanks again
  7. Windows Media Player gives an error "We can't open Whatever.mp3. You don't havepermission to access the file." even though I have permission

I have a folder of .mp3 files which I play regularly. I have a script that will create a .wpl file, save me the huge effort of selecting the files, right-clicking and choosing Play 😎. Fairly often, when I create a new .wpl file, and double-click it, WMP gives me an error like the one shown in...
  8. Solved Why are some folder icons shown very small and some not?

@Fabler2 Thanks so much, that fixed it
  9. Solved Why are some folder icons shown very small and some not?

I have a collection of .ico files, and have been using them as folder icons. However, whilst some show as I would expect, some of them are shown at a very small size, rather than the size of the folder. See the screenshot below... As you can see, the icons for four of the folders fill the...
  10. Double-clicking a file in a USB shared on my router opens a new Edge tab not the file

Anyone able to comment here? I tried accessing this drive from another PC, without mounting a it as a network drive, but had the same issue, so it's nothing to do with the FTP network drive.
  11. Double-clicking a file in a USB shared on my router opens a new Edge tab not the file

I didn't change anything, the screenshot I showed earlier has the default settings, other than the change of name to Stuff. The reason I mounted it as an FTP network drive was because when I first plugged the drive in, I tried accessing it via \\Stuff, but got an error saying Windows could not...
  12. Double-clicking a file in a USB shared on my router opens a new Edge tab not the file

@glasskuter Thanks, but I did all of that already (except for the security bit which I'm ignoring for now). Whichever method I use, I can browse the folders on the USB drive, but double-clicking a file opens a new Edge window (not a tab as I mistakenly said earlier) instead of opening the file...
  13. Double-clicking a file in a USB shared on my router opens a new Edge tab not the file

I have a TP-Link Archer C1200 router, which (like many routers) has a USB port. I plugged a USB drive into that port, and checked that the router could see it... I can see this in File Explorer under the Network node, but I can't seem to do anything useful with it. Double-clicking it opens...
  14. Locked out of my Outlook account

Hmm, that's a clever idea, will look into it. I tried the form, but they rejected my request saying I hadn't supplied enough info. Trouble was, the only info they asked for that would identify the account was the addresses and subject lines of some recent sent emails. However, I haven't used...
  15. Locked out of my Outlook account

😁 Took me a while to find it though
