Hello everyone,
I’m looking for recommendations for a desktop search application to replace X1 Search on my Surface Laptop 7 running Windows 11 (64 bit) on an ARM processor.
REQUIREMENTS:
Indexed Searches – I need a tool that builds an index to allow fast, efficient searches, rather than...
Interesting. However I find it hard to imagine that Microsoft would have built in (or claimed to have done so) if staying at 100% charge was not in some way damaging.
The BIOS only seems have one setting and that make is stop charging at about 48% and worse, is pretty clunky to change...
OK so what's the answer?!
It's pretty clear that keeping the laptop's Lithium-ion battery at 100% charge for too long is BAD for the battery health.
So, how can I keep it below 80% charge?
J
Well what do you make of this article about Lithium Ion batteries?

I am at the limits of my knowledge, but it seens pretty compelling to me...
J
Yes the Surface App is installed.
My problem is that it keeps being in "Paused" mode. i.e. It keeps charging up to 100% and leaving it there for days, which I know is bad for the battery. So my question is: How can I turn it on again... and thereby start capping the charge at 80%?
Hello
How can I get Windows 11 (Home) to protect my battery properly?
i.e. Normally it should only charge to 80% when plugged in, and when it gets below 20% (30%?) give me a warning and then soon after put my latop into sleep mode.
AND allow me to override these settings when I am travelling...
OK I have solved the security warning issue. For some (idiot) reason, Win11 doesn't like it when I open files from C:\Users\alecs\Favorites\Links
But if I create a new folder called C:\zz_Quick Launch, then it seems fine!
[deep sigh] :eyeroll::eyeroll:
New problem! With StartAllBack ("SAB") I am getting an Open File "security warning" in every shortcut. Is there any way around this?
Weirdly, I can't even find the application file anywhere... (The only way to open it appears to be to Right-Click on the windows Start button).
OK (reluctantly) I am trying StartAllBack. But I still can't see how to create a "Quick Start" type menu.
i.e. What really I want is an area of the bottom of the screen onto which I can drag either applications or individual files.
Failing that I would like a large Start Menu area that behaves...
My scaling by default was set as "150%".
I have now increased it to 175%, but I don't want to go much larger than that.
But is there any way to increase the size of the Start Menu? Because I want to fit more stuff on it...!
J
Hello
How can I make the Start Menu larger (in Windows 11 home)?
Background
I am using a fairly high resolution screen 2496 x 1664 pixels (Microsoft Surface Laptop v7).
Thanks
