  1. Network Help Please

Ops, you got a post in while I was typing (which I do slowly...)
  2. Network Help Please

Again I apologize for the SnagIt red herring. I don’t really care about sharing SnagIt shots specifically. The main end result is I want to share things between my two desktops. They are about 50-55 feet away from each other. And doing this testing on my wife’s computer is a great hassle as...
  3. Network Help Please

I use the NT file system (NTFS), not FAT or FAT32 on all drives (except small USB thumbdrives). They say “NT” stands for New Technology. I stopped using FAT(32) when I upgraded to Windows XP. Here’s an article on it if interested. It shows file size and drive size possibilities. NTFS overview .
  4. Network Help Please

My desktop is ‘self contained’ meaning all day-to-day storage is in the case. So it Boots normally. I do have a handful of external drives I use for backup and such. I fired up the utility called Speccy to get more accurate size info. So inside this computer I have: 1) 1TB SSD in two 500MB...
  5. Network Help Please

I have to apologize; even though I try hard not to, I far too often don’t explain things too well. As a result, I turned ‘SnagIt’ into a red herring. Being a new laptop, the SnagIt folder was the only folder that I had data in; that’s the only reason I picked it. So I figured I’d start fresh. I...
  6. Network Help Please

Hi. Thanks for the tip and link on the printer. The odd thing on the laptop Users sharing is I really don’t remember doing that. Also, there is no option to Un-Share as seen in the attachment. Also in the Users properties, it’s Shared with Admin, which I for sure did Not do; second attachment...

Yes… and no. Tons of folders come up, but in spot checking a lot of them, they are at least 95% empty. I did find a (very) few files scattered about, like I’m listening to an mp3 on the laptop from the desktop right now. Same for viewing the laptop’s Users from the desktop.
  8. "Photo" use Help

Works like a charm, thanks. Any ideas on why Photo doesn’t show/go thru all the images in a folder on the laptop? (Remember I can properly go thru thousands on an SD card.) I now have 16 screenshots in my screenshot folder, but Photos will show only four at a time. And three of them are always...
  9. Network Help Please

(Before I forget, and I don’t know if it matters, but under folder Properties in both computers, the Read Only Attribute is set to on. I can uncheck the box, click Apply, exit, and come back in and it’s checked again…) “Are all computers listed?” Yes, as show in the first screenshots. On the...

  11. "Photo" use Help

I’ve Googled this and can’t find the simple things I’m looking for. One thing is how to turn on/off the filmstrip and/or how to make it float (or even just move it). It floats in several YouTube videos I’ve watched on how to use it but not in others. I just tried using it viewing thousands of...
  12. Network Help Please

Thanks. In between my “Honey Do” things, I’ve got a lot of time messing with various settings/names and still can’t get it to work. For testing I picked the SnagIt screenshots folders in both the laptop and my desktop computer. I did as instructed: Sharing tab, click advanced sharing. Tick...
  13. Network Help Please

Great! Almost there I guess. On my Win 7 Pro desktop, I turned it off as suggested. From the Win 11 laptop I can now get in, but only see my desktop’s printer, Users, and Virtual PC. But no data, and none of the multiple drives on the desktop or the files on them. (Which is the same thing I see...
  14. Network Help Please

OK, I got the laptop to see my main desktop. It sees it twice: once as a computer and once as a media server. When I click on the computer icon, I get the error below. I have absolutely No idea what it's asking for: a router user name/password? A computer user name/password? How do I get in?
  15. Need AntiVirus Help

Yes, agreed. I'll be re-reading this thread another time or three. I uninstalled McAfee but it left some kind of free web protection package behind. I Googled it and discovered it keeps a log on their database 'back home' of everything you do online, 'for your protection'. In a day where...
