    Thanks. ExplorerPatcher is brilliant. Not only can I get small taskbar icons again, after KB5022913 broke Winaero, but also I can look at desktop icons in taskbar. Also taskbar is inline with small icons which wasn't the case with the now broken Winaero. Until Microsoft stamp their clunking...

    I've just spent 3 hours with MS tech support. They took control of my PC and tried everything before giving up. They suggest that since the PC is working fine (other than update) that I just use it until I'm ready to replace and that Windows will work safely and reliably without any updates...

    Thanks. I looked at the event logs but couldn't see anything useful, ie file names. I'll have another go later but I'm breaking new ground here and on a steep learning curve.

    I tried all that I could but the Dos ones didn't seem to work. Also, I don't really know what I have to delete, it may not be Realtek?

    I was going to try the unsupported hardware option that requires a registry edit but regedit says I don't have the permissions to create a key under settings.... Aaarrrrrggggghhhhh.     This is new. Windows update is now offering 22H2 but if I click install, it instantly comes back and says it can't install it with an option to try again... rinse and repeat.

    This is crazy, I've tried safe mode, singed in as admin, but I can't delete or move anything. Is there a command to remove all nanny protections?
