  • Intel is aware of reports from end users of blue-screen hangs with error code “Unsupported Processor” when updating to August 2023 preview Updates for Microsoft* Windows* 10 and Windows 11 while using the latest BIOS updates from system manufacturers on affected processors.
  • Intel has identified an issue in recent microcode updates to system manufacturers which can cause this error code.
  • The following processors are impacted by this issue:

    RPL-P 6P+8E0xB06A2

Resolution
As of September, Intel has released updated microcode versions 0x11D and 0x411C to system manufacturers to address this issue on 13th Generation Intel® Core™ Processors with Performance Hybrid Architecture.

While this is a stupendous silly defect from Ms and should be fixed ASAP -- these sorts of problems can temporarily be avoided or got round by installing via dism.exe /Apply-Image. Doesn't help much though if you want to UPDATE to a newer build unless FFU works -- haven't got the processor so I can't test the /capture disk or /capture image options from FFU.

OK people shouldn't have to do it but these get arounds are in theory do-able and not too hard -- most people on these Forums are reasonably adept with Windows.

Firmware updates themselves are often fraught with significant risk - especially if relatively new and not tested by a significant number of developers at Intel etc.

For my 13600KF this is what I got
BFEBFBFF000B0671

13600KF has 6 P core & 8 E core

But From the list, I can't get it matched as for 0xB0671, only mentioned about 8 P core & 16 E core
RPL-S 8P+16E0xB0671
RPL-HX 8P+16E0xB0671

Does that mean 13600KF is unaffected by this issue?

My CPUID is BFEBFBFF000B0671. No known issues.

Detailed system specs in "My Computers".

One thing that's not included: I'm running the latest BIOS for my Z690-E, which Asus posted on 17 August, 2023. There's no mention of the issue in the release notes, but Asus typically is terse.

One thing that's not included: I'm running the latest BIOS for my Z690-E, which Asus posted on 17 August, 2023. There's no mention of the issue in the release notes, but Asus typically is terse.

Did you read the OP provided link? While I never received that particular error message I did experience other CPU related issues. The bios update along with two intel driver updates seem to have remedied it.

In particular one of the previous MSI bios updates deactivated my windows install when it shouldn't have. The intel cpu driver issue made things like lzx decompression fail to function properly.

Yes. It gives the impression that the issue might affect me, with an Asus MB.

It doesn't.

Maybe Asus didn't supply the microcode update?

With one exception, ASUS BIOSes use microcode 0x115 for the i9-13900K processor. The one exception is beta BIOS 0084 for the Z790 Apex; it uses 0x119, which triggers the BSOD. MSI paid the price for trying to keep up to date with Intel's microcode! The current Intel microcode for this processor, which fixes various errata and does not trigger the BSOD, is version 0x11D.

@bobkn If you want to use the latest Intel microcode with an ASUS motherboard, you would need to mod the BIOS yourself using the tools at the Win-Raid Forum. Here is a link to the microcode: Intel, AMD, VIA & Freescale CPU Microcode Repositories Discussion. But unless you are familiar with Win-Raid's UBU Tool, I would not suggest modifying your BIOS to update the microcode. It is a complicated and risky procedure. Eventually, ASUS will release the updated microcode.

I feel no desire to mod my firmware at this time. I was just seeking information, although I might well not understand it.
