I bought a used 2022 Dell Alienware x17 R2 running Windows 11 home with an i7-12700H cpu.
I took delivery about a week ago.
I reset the pc from Dev Channel 21H2 to Normal Channel 23H2.
I updated all the device drivers through both Windows Update and Dell's SupportAssist Utility. I tuned the system using SupportAssist too.
My issue is one of sluggishness. With no other programs or browsers running, it takes 4 seconds to bring up the Settings window. My Win 10 box running hardware from 2017, and not even a gaming machine, is able to instantaneously show its Settings window. File Explorer on Alienware is also arduously slow to display its first window - 4 to 5 seconds. It runs faster if there is already one or more File Explorer windows running.
I put Windows 11 home into Performance mode, though I don't think it works for Win 11 home. It does work for Win 11 Pro.
The machine came with 64 Gb RAM, and twin 2 Tb SSD's, only 1 of which is running. I only mention this in case it has any bearing on my sluggishness problem. I'll run another post later on to figure out how to attach it.
A friend suggested that it might be that some small amount of memory for operating system use is not allocated, because it appeared to be bound by a small memory capacity. I'm clueless about that.
I installed the 2024-06 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11, Version 23H2 for x64-based System (KB5039302).
I'm not running a VM hypervisor.
