Solved 24H2 forced upon me... Help, how do I stop it from updating my laptop?

Hello everyone,

Windows 11 just updated from 23H2 to 24H2 this evening. I only know this because I got a message stating that my computer needs to restart. I checked updates and sure enough, Windows 11, version 24H2 [is] Pending restart. How can I stop it from updating my laptop? I don't want 24H2... I'm not ready. Help!

Okay, I am going to restart. I backed up all my saved documents, picture and downloads, etc. I hope I can just do a restore of a previous backup I have of 23H2 and then do that trick of the target release version from Shawn's tutorial.

Support for Windows 11 23H2 ends in November this year....so my advice is to embrace the 24H2 update and try to fix obvious annoyances.

Hello everyone,

Well, I let the upgrade go through and all of that went well after some time. So, I thought I would try to rollback the upgrade so I can stay at 23H2, but that didn't go so well. It did go all the way through the process except when it was 100% completed and restarted, my laptop would not boot into Windows 11. It went straight to Windows 10 without the option to choose the desired operating system. I tried to restart my laptop hoping this time it would give me the option to choose the operating system, but it again went straight to Windows 10.

Now I have to try to restore my Windows 11 boot. Where do I begin?

I and others, cannot stress enough the importance of backing up and creating an image before installing new software, implementing major twaks and especially upgrades to the operating system.

I can recommend Hasleo, others use Macrium Reflect and other imaging programs.

Open a Admin command prompt and enter the command:

bcdboot B:\Windows

Reboot and see if it gives you a dual boot option.

I've been using 24H2 since it rolled out without any issue, even though my PC doesn't meet the official requirements.....I think most of the issues and bugs appear upon upgrading from a lower version rather than doing a clean install ( I always do a clean install).
