Solved 24H2 Install errors 0x80070002 and/or 0x20007 Solved (for me)

My Dell G7 7700 I7 (10th gen) laptop kept failing the upgrade from 23H2 build 22631.4460 to 24H2. With about 7 attempts, it failed each time with Error 0x80070002, sometimes including Error 0x20007. After much searching, I found a procedure that worked. The install kept failing with the 2 year old Realtek AMD drivers in the "hidden" DriverStore/FileRepository. Deleting these corrupt, "protected" files allowed the 24H2 upgrade to install properly. Your problem may be similar, but your defective drivers may be completely different. Here is how to find out:

1 - Set "File Explorer" to see hidden system files. In File Explorer go to ". . ." / options/ view and select "show hidden files".
2 - In File Explorer go to C:\Windows\Panther and open file "setupact.log". It's a long text file and slow to load. Go to the end (bottom) of it and look for the driver install errors.
3 - Looking for driver errors in the last 30 lines or so. Mine had one Realtek AMD driver error. It turns out I had to delete all of the related Realtek drivers. About 8 of them.
4 - In File Explorer, search "Windows/System32/DriverStore/FileRepository" for those faulty drivers.
5 - Delete the faulty drivers. Since they require special permissions to delete, I loaded, free "Emco UnLockIt 7" to make it easy.
I didn't delete anything other than the drivers, since I didn't know what that result would be, but drivers can be replaced.
Maybe one of our experts can improve on this post.
6 - Reboot and try the 24H2 installation again. Hopefully you have good luck, as I did.

Welcome to the forum Richard and thank you for posting what worked for you. The only thing I can add to what you posted is that Driver Store Explorer run as administrator can delete old drivers. It's a very powerful tool so anyone who chooses to use it needs to do so with care.
