Hi folks
After update to 24H2 on both W11 Pro preview and 2025 W11 Server (std edition with desktop experience) the Nic could not detect any 2.5 GHZ network or connect to an older type ISP router (I'm on a gig in UK currently and BT the provider where I'm located at still has huge amounts of old museum type hardware around -- OK not easy having to upgrade loads of old infrastructure and full fibre not available here just yet) and wouldn't disable the default 802.11d wifi mode or come out of auto so I could just select 802.11a/n/ac -- i.e it also has the 'n' protocol in it.
Error message was always "Couldn't connect to this network". Same error BOTH in W11 Pro AND W2025 Server.
While it's good for windows update via WU can update many manufacturer's drivers it doesn't always work - best to go to the manufacturer's sites themselves for updates. Hard to make a hard and fast rule about that but I'm sure loads of connectivity issues are caused by a combination of old creaking Internet / ISP infrastructure and poor update co-ordination
I suspect the real problem is a combination of old ISP hardware (can't do anything about that) plus the poor driver update from Windows Update in going from 23H2 to 24H2 and failing to allow "legacy settings" on the NIC properties
re-installed the old driver and all working.
here's the release I'm using for Windows server 2025

Wifi Nic settings - using previous driver settings (from 23H2). (contol panel->system->hardware>nic>properties>advanced)

802.11d disabled (on 24H2 driver stays fixed in auto)
Wirless mode 802.11 a/n/ac (on 24H2 driver no 802.11n offering - only ac.
Cheers
