I know some of you use Dell Command | Update, like I do on Dell devices that I manage. I noticed there was a new version (5.5.0), with the following enhancements.

- Enhanced software update mechanism by downloading the driver packages specific to the operating system during the Advance Driver Restore operation.
- User interface refinements with rebranding of the splash screen for Dell Command | Update application.

These sound like relatively minor changes, but then I checked the running processes. Compare this to the 28 MB or so for the service installed by versions up through 5.4.0.

For me, this version is way too bloated for what you get, so I'll be skipping this one unless we find we absolutely need it.

Hi @pseymour . Yes I noticed that the Dell Update 5.5 was available. I'm surprised about this as 5.4 is not being supported any more and Dell appears to be trying to get everyone on to Supportassist. I'm assuming that Dell Update won't be auto updated to 5.5. As an aside, the new version of Supportassist (4.8) is available and seems more stable and error free than previous versions. Mitch.

Howdy @Mitch! I’m referring to Dell Command | Update, which is for business machines, such as the Latitude, OptiPlex, Precision, and some XPS devices.

Dell Update is for consumer machines, such as the Inspiron, Vostro, and other XPS devices.

They’re two different things.
