I have updated drivers using the minitool. I used the Nividia app to check for driver updates. Mine is not listed on their update page, unless I'm blind. I'm not sure what else to check.System Log FileSystem Log File unzipped Google Drive

Did you use any workaround to install Win 11 23h2?

Please run this diagnostic tool : WhyNotWin11
Microsoft found out that some computers aren't Win 11 24h2 compatible. They say they are working on it

I've installed Win 11 24h2 and then, after many issues, rolled back to 23h2.

'your PC isn't supported yet. Install error - 0xc1900209
Install error 0xc1900209 is usually associated with incompatible software.

From your Logs, Safeguards.txt shows:
GatedBlockId REG_MULTI_SZ 54580694\054580694\056031903

Microsoft doesn't provide a full list of all their safeguard holds, but others have tried to catalog them.

the last one (56031903) is for less than 25GB free space on your C: drive.

The other one (54580694, which you seem to have twice) is described as "Avira - File delete issue" in the SafeGuardHoldDataBase.json here:

Try to free up some space, and uninstall your Avira AV.

I had the avira gatedblock ID. Never had avira installed, scoured everything in my system and found nothing. So, a couple of weeks ago, I made sure I had current backups and then used the ISO to perform an in-place upgrade. 24h2 installed fine and other then a couple of little quirks it has been running fine. I don't recommend that path, but in my case it worked. I don't know if the 56031903 block would still stop the install, but I guess it might.

Probably, insufficient free space would prevent creating the windows.old folder.

Perhaps this laptop came with Avira on it and I uninstalled it. It's not listed in apps or control panel programs.
Avira don't provide an uninstall tool, but they do give instructions on removing residual files. Look and see if you have any. See 'Clean your system' here:

How do I check what's taking up so much space?
If you haven't done a clean up recently, click Start, type 'disk clean-up' and run it as an administrator. This will list temporary files and windows system files that can be safely cleaned up. The Windows update cleanup in particular can often recover quite a few GB. Also, on its 'More Options' tab you can delete all but the latest restore point, which may also recover several GB.

If you still need to find what's using up the space, TreeSize Free can show you. When run as an administrator it can see everything, however well protected by the system. I would recommend the Portable version that requires no install.

I don't remember if I let Windows update get me to 23H2 or if I used and ISO file.
Could have been either, your system is a supported device. If Windows Update did it then it should be listed as a Feature Update in Windows Update > Update history. This only lists installs made by Windows Update, so upgrading with an ISO won't appear in the history.

I managed to get up to 45GB free space. I did run disk cleanup before. Other then my download folder, which I reduced, I'm not sure what would make a big difference. Windows updates 8.90GB is listed. Is there something I can do there?

Run Disk Clean-up as administrator, as I described in post #8. That will let you clean up Windows updates.

Open Terminal as admin from the WinKey+X menu.

This command will tell you the size of the Windows component store (where all the Windows updates are stored).
dism /online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore

This will clean up any updates that have been replaced by newer ones. If there are none to clean up it will quickly get to 70% then end.
dism /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

If it runs all the way to 100% then run the first command again to see how much you've gained.

I routinely use these commands after every Patch Tuesday cumulative update to keep my machines 'slim' and clean.
