Multi boot options: Windows 11 Pro 64 for Workstation / Linux varieties x5 / In house custom OS
OS: Win 11 23H2

I'm looking for freeware that allows me to attach a comment to a file.
Windows has built-in the ability to [R click>Properties>Details>Comments]
to add a comment to media type files (JPG etc.).

Is there a way to do the same or similar via freeware foe all types of files
ie. (.exe, .txt, .doc, .whatever)

Thank You.

@johnlgalt Good recommendation. FileMeta still works. I just tested it on Windows 11.

Here I've added a comment to a text file. Of course, the comments (and all other additional metadata) will be lost if the file is moved to a non-NTFS volume, but it's pretty cool. And free.

For anyone wanting to try it, be sure to follow the Getting Started instructions and don't be intimidated by that very busy file association manager screen. Just take your time and add the file extensions you need. It's actually very easy.

Ah, yeah, good point to note.

For all:

Windows 11, by default, formats your HDD(s) / SSD(s) using NTFS, but most thumb drives come factory pre-formatted with either FAT32 (older ones) or exFAT (newer ones). So, if you copy a file with comments added to a file's ADS on NTFS to something that is not NTFS (FAT32, exFAT, etc.) those comments will be lost - because other file systems don't have the capacity to store ADS.

Thanks, @LesFerch - I totally forgot about that being a potential pitfall.
