airplane mode still connects

Hi ,
I searched for a while but came up empty.
New HP laptop win 11 home. Push airplane mode button and airplane appears but wi fi stays connected and I can continue to surf normally.
No idea why. What good is airplane mode in this case, and what if I wanted to disconnect ?
SFC tests pass no errors

Airplane mode is offline mode. If you're on a plane, you turn off your wifi during the flight.

I understand that Norman, but i am still online in airplane mode, it never disconnects. I can't figure it out. New HP Laptop

Would help possibly if you could fill out your computer specs properly. HP isn’t a model, it’s a brand.

Please type “Winver” into search on your PC and open it. Please type the version and build that it reports, into your “System Specs / OS” section (first on the list where you have placed “Windows 11 Home”)

Like this for example: Windows 11 Pro 23H2 Build 22631.3374

Where are you clicking on Airplane Mode? In HP app settings or Windows?

I am also running a HP laptop with W11 home. If you Google "what is airplane mode", it will tell you that it will disconnect WiFi, Bluetooth, and cellular data. But they are always talking about cell phones. On a PC it may work a little different.

There is a note at the bottom of this page that describes how to. Below is a quote from that page.

"Note: Airplane mode retains the settings you used last time. When you turn on airplane mode, Windows remembers if you had Wi-Fi or Bluetooth on last time, and keeps that setting so your Wi-Fi or Bluetooth will be on again. If you want to return to the default settings with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth off, turn them off while you're in airplane mode—they'll remain off next time you use airplane mode. They'll also stay off when you exit airplane mode."

Pushing the keyboard key, and an airplane appears in the taskbar, but no change otherwise

So to be clear I can toggle airplane mode manually from reading above, but the keyboard key appears to be useless. Strange, but i can get around it I suppose.

OK cool. So it works via toggle but not your Keyboard.

Sometimes the function key is needed but if there is an indication of Airplane mode after pressing F12? Then that isn’t the problem.

I have to be honest, I am having trouble finding the support page for the HP Laptop15t-dy500.
The first question I read at HP forum said that updating your laptop Keyboard drivers is a possible fix, also, I would check your Wireless/bluetooth drivers as well. (But only via the HP support for your model)

I re installed the driver and no change. The airplane shows up on the screen when I push F12 but does nothing. No big deal I am good with it. Thanks gang

You may be correct. I have that same set of keys on my laptop. I use the speaker off/+/-, video controls, brightness, etc.. But I have never actually used the airplane key. I will have to try it some day. I only use the selections in the Network, Volume, Battery icon on the bottom right. Sorry.

I just can not find the support page.
If you have your HP software still installed, check for a firmware update also.

I see it isn’t that big a deal for you but it should work like it says on the box. Update everything

It may also be worth posting in the HP forum.

I don't have that stuff installed anymore. I will say that HP laptops have been extremely durable for me over the years with over 12 years usage on a DV6 and a DV7, and now a 15 inch and a 14 inch laptop to carry on. I have critical vehicles to upload and download and any glitch in that process could brick the car computer.. So, for me HP gives me peace of mind. Except now after in all these years i have a dud F12 key, and my life is RUINED !!! lolol
