Amazon UK fake products

This was even advertised on Amazon Instagram feed, clearly fake. 982GB? Of course it is. £12.99,the same price as a 64GB from same seller

Amazon fake products aren't confined only to the UK -- but usually Amazon is quick enough on the case and if one is mad enough to buy something that currently at the moment doesnt even exist as vaporware then they actually do have a refund scheme which apparently works OK.

I looked at this product on Amazon. It has 32 reviews of which 67% are 5-star. But look more closely - only 1 of the reviews is from a verified purchaser, and his report shows it's fake (actually it's a 32 Gb drive). Look at all the other reviews and they are for 128GB drives.

Very much caveat emptor.

Also only pay with a credit and not a debit card as in most jurisdictions even if the vendor doesn't pay up the credit card company has to re-imbourse the cost -- I think the amount has to be over €50 in EU / EEA - similar in some states (or maybe all now) in the USA and not sure about the UK now its left the EU. Debit cards give no guaranteed protection. Perhaps a UK resident can advise on that one.

Scamazon is legendary for counterfeit products in the US. Auto parts and electrical components are particularly suspect because profits are high. Generally these items are made of Chinesium

Yes they do. And of the 5 or 6 times I’ve received a refund, getting in chat and making a minor complaint about having to make an effort to go to a post office, has resulted in not having to return the product.

C'mon get real - Amazon is OK for 99% of its stuff and there's usually no probs these days getting refunds etc. If you don't like Amazon don't use it but don't give it attributes it doesn't have -- and over the years 99% of stuff I've bought from China has worked properly and did "what it said on the tin".

Far too much China paranoia -- and if you think Chinese politics are bad just try and visit Uganda or Somalia -- if you last more than 10 mins without an armed guard if you are a caucasian --good luck.!!!. Downtown Detroit isn't much fun either !!!!

Also I'm sure any proper car dealerships wouldn't be using Amazon to source spare parts -- same as the airlines. If you use any of those that do --it's likely to be your funeral (and I mean that literally !!!).

And Ebay is awash with these fakes as well. Here for example is a 2Tb flash drive for just £5.99. And 12 have been sold in the last 24 hours.....

I had to work with a client that got a no-name 2TB Thumb drive for supposedly a "great price" that would only partition and format to 1TB.

Good old caveat emptor at work. I've advised a few clients looking for computer stuff on Amazon to always look at the "Full-filled by" to see where a product will come from.

LOL at "made of Chinesium" (post 5). That cracked me up.

As for Amazon, it's always best to try to buy things that are... "Shipped and Sold by Amazon".
Amazon may not give a hoot about us, but they DO care about the reputation of their specific "Amazon" name.

It's always a good idea to be wary about 3rd party sellers with prices too good to be true.

PCPartpicker can be a useful tool for price-checking computer things, since it auto-finds the lowest "valid" prices.

I suspect 1TB was still wrong and you couldn't write 1 TB to it. Genuine 1TB flash drives cost £150+. The 2TB one I quoted earlier was reported as fake and the buyer posted the format errors which showed it only had 32 GB.

There are at least a dozen of these '982GB' SD cards on Amazon UK, all with dubious manufacturer. Lots of fake reviews, despite Amazon apparently clamping down on them.

True, but a 1TB drive is generally advertised as such, 982 seems to random. My old Samsung 1024GB SSD had a 951GB formatted capacity, the ones they sell as 1TB now are 1000GB, and format as 931GB.

That's the problem we have gotten ourselves into. With the digital world, we have all gone for...whatever the cheapest option is will work for me.
