Solved Anyone else seeing this - VMware Workstation Pro Keeps Releasing Mouse and Keyboard

EDIT: Post #9 in this thread describes solution.

I'm mainly using Hyper-V now but I had a reason to install VMware workstation Pro 17.6.3 yesterday. I created a Windows 11 24H2 VM. I'm having a problem where VMware seems to release both the mouse and keyboard approx. every 15 seconds.

As an example, say I open Notepad in the VM and start typing. After a few seconds, my keystrokes will no longer be accepted and displayed in notepad. At the same time I can see that my mouse pointer has changed indicating that VMware no longer has the keyboard and mouse. I need to click back inside the VM to get it to take control of the keyboard and mouse again. A short time later, estimate of about 15 seconds, the same thing will happen again. I've tried to research this but have not turned up any solutions.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has encountered this and maybe knows of a solution.

    The five 8TB drives and three 512GB SSDs are part of a DrivePool using StableBit DrivePool software. The three SSDs are devoted purely to caching for the 8TB drives. All of the important data is stored in triplicate so that I can withstand simultaneous failure of 2 disks.

I have VMware Workstation 17 Pro 17.6.3 build-24583834 have no problems here maybe you need to reinstall VMware.

I have found the latest vmware pro to be a bit buggy as well. I have had this happen as well as the copy and paste functionality not working.

I have found that the CareUEyes Pro 2 uses some unusual practices, the mouse (keyboard response) is slowed down in the guest operating system.

I is old story,
there are some (new? v16.x, v17.x) background processes, while active, we cannot copy/paste.
So we have to wait longer. In the past this reaction time was much faster.

Hi there
Haven't used VmWare for a long time but I did find when I last used it is that a) you need to install VmWare tools (that performs improvements for screen. mouse nad keyboard etc) and b) disabling a laptop touchpad also works.

In my case, I did have VMware Tools installed.

Why would I need a touchpad driver in a VM?

In any case, the problem seems to have magically resolved itself. I was using VMware for a good while last night and the problem never appeared once. Maybe the April updates did something.

I had the exact same issue. The following steps fixed it for me:

1. Uninstall vmware tools.
2. Reinstall vmware tools.
3. Shut Down the VM
4. Close VMWare Workstation
5. Open VMWare Workstation
6. Resume the VM.

You don't but in some cases the touchpad driver can interfere with mouse etc - and on a lot of laptops it's quite easy to brush the touchpad just by accident. Disabling it removes that possibility.
