Not sure that this is a "catch", but the Backupper product is licensed yearly at $39.95; a permanent license is $69.95 which given what Macrium just did seems reasonable.

It is a licence for a year and not lifetime, but what I have done is download and use it to do a complete backup, then stored that backup in a safe place and uninstalled it again, that way, if I do need it after the year, all I have to do is redownload it and restore.. although I'd pay a licence if I can't do it at that point without one.

the free version will restore images you made previously. It is possible to use the pro version for the year then switch to the free version, which doesn't have all the functions of the pro, but it can do the basic image backup and restore.

I just grabbed a bunch of the freebies. There's no catch. It's like OP, described in the title. You get the license key in a text file in the Zip file you download. Just input it into the register dialog in Backupper for example, and boom your registered for a year.

There will almost certainly be another one year giveaway towards the end of next year, they do it quite often. Or you can switch to using the free versions which do the basics. Or if you like the extra features buy the lifetime license at some point when there is a good discount. Plenty of options.

Hasleo is also a good imager but it doesnt do the same kind of syncing as far as I can tell, and it doesnt do partitioning so it cant substitute for aomei partition assistant

I can’t say for certain but I have a feeling they skip every second year. I believe the last giveaway was in 2022?

I've seen AOMEI Backupper Pro 1 year license giveaways on various giveaway sites like GiveAwayOfTheDay or Techno360 or ShareWareOnSale or WinningPC every couple of months at least but now that Macrium has gone subscription only the giveaways may be less frequent in future.
