Autoruns fails to run or link to Process Explorer

I have both programs installed in it's own separate folders under C:\Program Files (x86). They are the latest editions.

I run them both in administrator mode

Whenever I try to link Autoruns by right mouse clicking an object and selecting the Process Explorer item I want to link to, I get this error message:

Does anybody know how to prevent this error message from happening?

Yeah, I know that. It's in a zip file and I can extract it to wherever I want to.

As I said, I have a folder off the C:\ drive with a shortcut in the Start menu.

Well I moved them both to my user profile folder and now Autoruns can link to to Process Explorer like @FreeBooter suggested and it links. Only problem is the error I took a picture up above in my original post keeps appearing, even though it links like it's supposed to. Not sure what's going on there. 🤨

Autoruns is a standalone program and should not be linked to anything.
It also shouldn't be in the x86 folder as it is 64bit, but that is not important.

If you right mouse click an object in Autoruns, you will see a Process Explorer selection in the right mouse click menu. That's what I'm talking about.

Indeed, I get the info I want but get the same pop-up error after I close the process walker.

I noticed it works a lot better if Autoruns and ProcExp are in the same folder, as it is when you download the whole Sysinternals suite, but you still get the annoying message after ProcExp launches.

I get the same error message here and can confirm what the OP states.
1. Start Autoruns and right click an entry in either the Logon or Everything tabs.
2. Right click the process/app and select Process Explorer.....
3. Process Explorer opens fine then a couple of seconds later the error message appears.

A workaround is to open up Process Explorer first.
Also, I have the full 1100 page User Guide in pdf for SysInternals written by Mark Russinovich (one of the original devs of the software) and this issue isn't mentioned. I think it is relatively harmless bug.

My SysInternals install is from Microsoft Store so is in the default install location. It appears to have nothing to do with where autoruns is installed.

Well I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one experiencing this issue. It sounds like a bug to me. I'll just have to live with it, I guess.... 😒
