Best Way to Learn How to Do Advanced PC Repairs/Case Transfers

Hello All

43 Year old Male, that unforuately has limited cash flow, but still wanna learn like Changing CPU Coolers properly/installing new ones, Transferring Motherboards to Different case and all hardware, eventually learn how to swap to a better motherboard if i ever have funds to afford a newer board and cpu, and pray it goes right.

For years when i had more funds--Family was like you can't do that yourself, and had Local shop build my systems since 2003.

Now when i had more real life peace--aka Family members was gone, i did transfer old ATX Motherboard in 2009 to my other case successfully and that PC ran for years til it was too slow to use anymore

Sometimes i wish i didn't have my mental disability, but is what it is, so all i can do is make due

I've only had one OEM purchased desktop computer, a Gateway 2000 P5-90 way back in the early 90's. I've built my own desktop computers ever since. The only way to learn is by doing it. One thing I learned early on is - take your time.

There's nothing wrong with the case you have now. It just needs a couple of fans up top blowing out.

I assembled a PC for the first time in 1997. (I'd fooled around inside personal computers before that, though. Including a Mac Quadra 700, which I bought without a hard drive in 1991.)

In my opinion, the only really delicate part of a current PC is the CPU pins, or CPU socket pins for an LGA (land grid array) motherboard. Bend those, and there may be no repair.

Intel Socket 1700 has to be looked at fairly carefully to make sure that the CPU isn't rotated 180°. I don't know what would happen if the retention mechanism was closed with the CPU oriented incorrectly.

Regardless, nothing but the CPU must ever touch the socket. The LGA fingers are very fragile.

There's nothing to building your own PC. Just take time, like @bikeman17 said - have a good flashlight. Order the right parts, too. Plan your build by checking the parts online (CPU, GPU, case, AIO cooler, etc) and you should have no problem. I've built my last 5 PCs and learn something new each time, so it's worth it.

That's how I learned to build PC. I transferred an off-the-shelf HP PC to a bigger case so I can upgrade some parts. That was a decade ago. Since then, I build my own PC from scratch from based on that experience. I build another for my daughter and some friends.
