Title: BSOD "REFERENCE_BY_POINTER" 0x00000018 When System is Idle

Post:

Hello everyone,

I'm encountering an issue with my Laptop where I get a BSOD only when the system is idle—meaning when I'm not actively using the computer, such as when I'm not playing games, watching videos, or listening to music. A few seconds after the system becomes idle, I get a BSOD.

System Information:
  • Operating System: Initially Windows 10, upgraded to Windows 11 (no change in issue)
  • Event Viewer Error: ID 41 (Sudden system restart)
  • BSOD Error: "REFERENCE_BY_POINTER" with error code 0x00000018
BSOD Viewer Output:

082524-17531-01.dmp 25.08.2024 17:35:57 REFERENCE_BY_POINTER 0x00000018 0000000000000000 ffff80036f3089b0 0000000000000002 ffffffffffffffff ntoskrnl.exe ntoskrnl.exe+415cb0 NT Kernel & System Microsoft® Windows® Operating System Microsoft Corporation 10.0.22621.4036 (WinBuild.160101.0800) x64 ntoskrnl.exe+415cb0 C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\082524-17531-01.dmp 12 15 22621 3,732,157 25.08.2024 17:36:28

Steps I have taken:
  • Upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11: I was hoping the upgrade might resolve the issue, but it persists.
  • Basic Troubleshooting: Checked Event Viewer and used BSOD Viewer for insights.
Current Situation:

The error occurs only when the system is idle, which makes it particularly frustrating as I can't pinpoint what might be causing it when the system isn't under load.

Has anyone encountered a similar issue? Any advice on how to diagnose or resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
