Can I upgrade 10 Home to 11 Home and still sign on with a local account?

I have a Win 10 Home PC that is eligible for the 11 upgrade. I sign on with a local account only. If I run the Win 11 upgrade (keeping files and settings) from the .iso with my internet connection active, will 11 require me to sign in with a Microsoft account? I thought I read somewhere that if you do the upgrade from 10, you are not forced to sign in with a Microsoft account. I can't find that now and don't know if that's still the case.

No. I can confirm that, having upgraded my System One below from W10 Home to W11 Home. I only used local accounts before, and still only have local accounts.

You will want to turn off 'Offer suggestions on how I can set up my device' after the upgrade to W11, else you'll get nagged to switch to a Microsoft account. It's hidden away right at the bottom of System > Notifications.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Dev, Beta, and RP 24H2 as native boot vhdx.

    My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 8GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus the Insider Beta, Dev, Canary, and Release Preview builds as a native boot .vhdx.

not sure about upgrading but on a new installation of Windows 11 Home you can:

I got a new Notebook in Oct. with Win10 Pro, set up as a local account, did the updates then got offered the Win11 Pro Upgrade, not having any issues yet.

Forgot to add: be sure your current version is 64-bit/x64, have seen lots of mention that there is no x86/32-bit Version of Win11 although the x64 Version will run many 32-bit programs.

Thanks for the info. I upgraded successfully and Win 11 retained my local account without asking me to use a Microsoft account.

Good, that was as expected. Now turn off 'Offer suggestions on how I can set up my device' as per my post #2 so it doesn't try to get you to use one later.

That was already unchecked. I had that turned off in 10 so they must have carried it over. Most settings I had in 10 were carried over.
