Can not for the life of me install this plotter

I've never had such a battle with a printer. Got a new plotter. Updated firmware, etc.... go to \\magpie (print server) and double click on the printer and it wont install. Tried manually with driver downloaded. Multiple computers having the issue.
Windows 11 computers and server is 2016 1607

Is "magpie" some specific server software, or just an arbitrary name given to the server? (Should we be searching on "magpie", or would that be as fruitful as searching on "Bob"?)

magpie is simply the name of the print server. Windows 2016 server.

What difference does it make if it's installed manually locally or deployed with GPO? I've tried manually on 3 different PC's

Have you tried manually connecting the plotter to a computer to install the driver and set it up, and then configure it over network?

Thought about that, but it does not have usb ports. Only ethernet and wifi.

Do the machines have the HP Network Devices Support service listed under services?

Edit: Yeah if you cant even get the driver to install thats a problem....

according to what I found that service needs to be installed and running in order for it to connect.

Also, does the printer have a valid ip? Have you checked with the network team to confirm they see it?
