Windows 10 PRO
3 weeks ago after a windows update my windows boot stopped at a black screen. I system restored then delayed the update fior the maximum 3 weeks. Today it updated and bricked the PC again. Again I system restored to get a working PC.

How do I get out of this look? (I'd rather carry on like this forever tjhan reinstall windows It would take hours and weeks to get it back).

You can do an In-Place Upgrade Repair, then try the update again.
The advantage to this is that it will repair Windows and leave your programs, etc., untouched.

Here is the short version of the In-place upgrade tutorial...

DISABLE non-Microsoft:
a) antivirus software
b) firewall software
c) drive encryption software

Make a full OS backup with a program like Macrium Reflect or AOMEI Backupper Standard
Making a backup is optional, but always a smart move.
If you had a backup from before this problem occurred, you wouldn't be reading this. :-)
Macrium Reflect
AOMEI Backupper Standard (free)

Get the Windows 11 ISO image and save it to your desktop...

Right click the ISO image and choose: MOUNT
Open File Explorer and you will see a new drive letter. It will "look" like a DVD optical drive.
Double click the new drive letter to open it.
Find setup.exe and double click it to start the in-place upgrade.

Choose the Keep personal files and apps option.

After it's all done... to UNmount the ISO image, right click the new drive letter and choose: EJECT.

The ONLY thing you will lose is some of your personalizations.
Your drivers, programs and data will be intact.

Thanks for this, and I shall proceed with it. However, hen you say if you had a back up (image ) like this you wouldn't need to ...etc. I have a back up image but surely I'll still arrive at the position where the windows image bricks my PC?

Well... you're in a one of a kind situation, pretty much.
99% of the time, a backup would solve the problem. :-)

I didn't type that just for you... it's a copy/paste from a text file I have.

A quick download of "StopUpdates10Setup.exe" and a quick run, would solve all your updates problems.
In the real world you don't need all of those #$^& updates anyway. The program is FREE!

I've run Windows for many years, without ever getting an MS update, other than those I get at an install, which are mainly for updating my video driver, etc. Then I run the above mentioned program and never worry about an errant update again. The program also lets me turn updates back on, if I would ever want to. Can't imagine I would!
Just a little advise from a very OLD Computer Tech.

In your credits, it says you're running windows 10, but this is the Windows 11 forum. Looks like something needs correcting. Eh?
