When I try to log in I get, Your credentials could not be verified.

Hi Brian. I've got to leave for doctors appt.
These guys or others can help.

Tell them as much about the "history" of the problem as you can.

Did this just start?
Did you change anything?
Was there just an update... etc. :-)

NOTE: When he tries to logon to his "computer" he gets the message: "your credentials could not be verified".

If I recall... he said he uses a PIN, and it won't let him change the PIN either.

If you are using a Microsoft account, at the PIN screen switch from PIN to password and type your account password. This should allow you to login. Then you can go at account settings and change the PIN.

To add to what is being said,
Are you logging in with a Microsoft Account (Email Address) or a Local Account (ie) a user name and password you made up?
Are you using a PIN or are you typing your Password?
As stated, if using a PIN, under that is Sign In Options. Click this and try your password.
If that fails, you can choose Forgot Password and reset your password

I'm using a Microsoft account that I've been using for years now, as well as a pin. I've tried several times to click on forget password but nothing happens?

Are you connected to the Internet? Sometimes you cannot login with a Microsoft account without internet. Also if you have changed your account password recently try entering the previous password as Windows may not have been aware of the change. Once you have successfully login to your account, go to Settings and change the PIN.

To post a screenshot on this forum...​

1. Take the screenshot, (or camera pic), edit it as desired, save to your desktop as .png or .jpg (max. size = 2MB)
2. Left click in your post, where you want to place the screenshot.
3. Click the Attach Files button at lower left, browse to your image and select it.
4. Then click Insert, I usually choose the Thumbnail (smaller) option, or there is a Full Image (larger) option.

On another internet device (computer, phone, tablet) go to account.micrsoft.com
Login with the last password you remember. If that fails, it will offer you Forgot Password. Here it will ask security questions or send a code to your smartphone or email address.

If you have a smartphone, you can download Microsoft Authenticator from Google Play (Android phone) or Apple Store. You will be given a QR code on your computer screen and scan it to the Authenticator. Then you can authorize your account if you forget your password

You can get rid of the password using a tool that replaces it or removes it. You can download Sergei Strelec's WinPE ISO and use Rufus to create a live Windows USB, much like a live Linux USB but with Windows. This contains a lot of diagnostic tools, including tools to remove a password in case you forgot it. Most tools work only with a local account, but there is one (I don't remember which) that can also unlock a Microsoft account by converting it to local first. That's what we Technicians do when our customer has forgot his/her password, with their consent of course.
