Here's the problem in a nutshell:

This is Windows 11 Home 24H2 on a Dell Inspiron 16 just purchased from BestBuy in-store.

OOBE updated Windows.

OOBE logged in with microsoft account.

OneDrive was automatically, and unconditionally started with "Important PC Folders" ON, and thus relocated to under %userprofile%/OneDrive folder.

Fine, but look at the Location tab in Properties for Documents. (above; Desktop and Pictures are fine).

In File Explorer everything looks right:

Those two chars are Chinese and translate to "Documents". So it's just the Chinese version of the default name.

The two chars are pasted here in case you're using Unicode:

文档

The html codes are:
文档

The other place it appears is:

Excel -> Open -> This PC

At the top it has the Chinese characters:

2025_03_15_204138_PC235_EXCEL_Excel_ed.webp

These are the chars appearing in the registry at

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders

and

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

Here's screenshots of them:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

I think I can just rename them in the registry and everything will be fine. Can anybody confirm?

I would open the OneDrive app, and look at Settings. Where does it think your folders are? You can change the Explorer side of the folders, but OneDrive might still want to locate itself in another folder.

Looking around the web, this isn't a rare problem. It's believed to be a language mismatch in OneDrive, and all the sub-folders are using the wrong localization. One suggestion is log into your MS Accounts portal, and check the OneDrive settings on the web side. See if the language setting is correct.
