OS
dual boot Win 10 HP & Win 10 Pro virtual (under Ubuntu 22.04)
I'm running Windows 11 (V21H2) with Windows 8.1 running virtually under Hyper-V. My client, Windows 8.1 runs fine. But I'm difficulty getting RDP to work. I found some directions for doing this but I run into a problem when I get to the Remote Desktop Connection window on the client. If I type in the name of my computer (the host) and click on Connect I get a window titled Windows Security that asks me to enter my credentials (username & password). I have no idea what are these "credentials." Since my PC is single user and not connected to any network (well, I do have a wireless router, but is that a "network"?, I don't use a password to log on-I just turn on the PC and let it load Windows 11. Perhaps someone could enlighten me as to what are these "credentials" and where I might find them or enter them, if that's what I need to do. I don't recall setting up any "credentials" when I loaded Windows 11, my host (nor my client, Windows 8.1). Thank you.

Welcome to the forum 🙏

The credentials refer to the Windows (Microsoft) username and password for the client.

If you only log in with a passkey (on the client) and have never physically logged into the client computer with a username and password, go to the client PC and do so at least once. Then try RDP.

RDP can have a bug when trying to connect remotely to a PC that only uses a passkey (Windows hello)

Thanks Antspants. I would never have guessed the required "credentials" are the information I use to sign into my Microsoft account. Now if I can just find the Microsoft account user name and password (of which I have several) I'll be in like Flynn ;-)
