This had an update through the Store just now, now it's constantly using a lot of CPU resources.

I've disabled Cross device in Settings, this didn't help. I then ended the task, it hasn't restarted yet but probably will when I next sign out or restart my pc.

I would think the first thing one would do is restart to see if the issue returned. Cross device experience host installs as a service.

If you disabled or never enabled Allow this PC to access your mobile devices in your Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mobiles device, you should not have Cross Device Experience Host installed.

To check if it is installed (it's just for information, this must be your case otherwise you would not have had the update), type this command in PowerShell as admin :

Get-AppxPackage *CrossDevice*

To uninstall Cross Device Experience Host if installed, type this command in PowerShell as admin :

Get-AppxPackage *CrossDevice* -AllUsers | Remove-AppxPackage -AllUsers

@glasskuter With the task ended, I signed out of Windows and back in again. The service restarted, again using high CPU resources. Restarting the PC, same thing. This is with 'Manage mobile devices' toggle in Settings DISABLED.

@MoKiChU I've used the Cross device before, it was installed when the feature was added, I had it set to Enabled. It's been completely fine until today's update. I will have to uninstall it to prevent the problem as even Disabling it is causing the service to run with high CPU.

I never allowed it from day one, but the actual file is installed. I suspect Windows had it installed, and then I turned it off after my clean install.

Since mine is not active, obviously I'm not experiencing the CPU load as it is not running.

FWIW - I'm leaving mine on to be able to test and verify any fix(es) that Microsoft puts out actually solve the CPU load issue.

You're running a different version to what I got today - mine is 1.24052.50.0. I never had the CPU load issue until this update today, the service has always been enabled

Hi,

You do not have the issue because you are not on 24H2, you are on 23H2, the problematic update of Cross Device Experience Host is only offered to 24H2 users to date. But if you were on 24H2 with the last update of Cross Device Experience Host from Microsoft Store you would meet all the conditions to Cross Device Service takes up to 10% of your CPU resources constantly (even if you never enabled any settings from Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mobiles device).

The only way to fix this issue is to uninstall Cross Device Experience Host as explained previously, and if you want to use this feature, wait for fix from Microsoft via a new update before reenabling the feature.

Yes that's odd. Was updated yesterday via Store. This is what now shows when I turn on the now showing toggle and CDEH removed,

Yes that's odd. Was updated yesterday via Store. This is what now shows when I turn on the now showing toggle and CDEH removed,

You definitely have the same problem, my CDEH service was also using 6-7% CPU all the time. I only noticed it as the CPU fan was louder than normal, so I checked the task manager and saw the problem. It was fine until the update.
You'll see that box if CDEH isn't installed, but the problem will start again once it is, unless you turn off the 'Allow this PC' toggle and then stop the service in Task manager.

I just turned the toggle on to show that the missing setting was now showing and it's been uninstalled. Revo does a good job. No service showing in task manager for obvious reasons.

CDEH and Phone Link are separate apps/services. Phone Link works without CDEH - in fact it worked for years until CDEH was added to Windows.

After an automatic update to Cross Device Experience Host four days ago (June 6), I was also seeing about 17% CPU use.

But after a further update two days ago (June 8), it reverted to 0%. So anyone with the issue should check for an update.
