Crucial X9 SSD file management

I'm using a new Crucial X9 4TB SSD. The folder date doesn't change if I eliminate or add a file in it. I can't see the reason for this.

I'd be grateful for any help.

The folder date will change when copied/moved to a different location such as to a different drive, different partition on a drive or as a subfolder in another folder. It will not change just by adding a file to it and the file dates don't change when moved around. It's that Windows writes a new folder in that different location before copy/move of the files, hence the different folder date of creation.

Thank you Berton.

Sorry for my ignorance. Is the behaviour you describe only only applicable in an SSD? In hard drives in a laptop it does not work that way.

It's not limited to particular type of drives, SSD or HDD, I ran into it with my first computer in '92 running MS-DOS 5 and Windows 3.1 on HDDs. Back then they were called Directory, change started later beginning with Windows 95.

Also involved is that there cannot be 2 or more folders of the exact same name nor 2 or more files of the exact same name in a folder, always has to be at least one character difference.

Both my other laptops (Lenovo P14s, T14s Gen 4) will change the date of a folder or directory if its content is changed. They run NTFS, not exFAT. Maybe this is the explanation?

I just tested on my Desktop in copying a file from one Folder on my NAS drive to a different Folder and no change of the Folder's date in Properties of the Folder. Same for copying from NAS to a USB drive, no Folder date change. All drives are NTFS and no third-party application installed.

Sounds like correct behaviour to me, if you're only adding /deleting files from the folder it has to reason to update the folder creation date.
