so, today I tossed in john wick to my asus external bluray drive to watch, and had to step away for half an hour.
I came back and on resuming from screensaver(note the displays never turned off, display power off is disabled) the content in cyberlink powerdvd black screened.
the UI was still present.
so I clicked play and the program proceeded to go unresponsive, I closed it through task manager.
note, remaining system interactivity was never lost.
relaunching and immediately attempting to load the disc saw cyberlink stop responding, whereupon it was force closed through task manager.
a subsequent relaunch saw the program running normally.
next I started troubleshooting.
I loaded another movie, kong skull island, and having opened up settings and screensaver settings, played the movie, paused it, and then previewed my screensaver(photos slideshow).
on resume, the movie promptly content promptly blacked right out.
next I clicked play..the program immediately locked itself up.
I next closed the software, waited a mo, relaunched, and loaded up the movie.
previewed screensaver.
next I clicked the stop button.
then I clicked launch movie.
it played straight away and even asked me if I wanted to resume where I was.
so I grabbed a stack of random blurays off my shelf and proceeded to run the above, and then tried it in windowed mode, moving from one display to another.
I was able to reproduce the failure mode every single time, and further able to reproduce the workaround every single time. (wake, click stop, click launch)
does this read as a buddy of mine suggested, as an HDCP issue, likely a handshake issue, of some sort?
