Debian 'Trixie' Testing

just downloaded the net installer ISO for Debian 'Trixie' Testing and have it running in Virtual Box.
Debian have re-started and now allowing a direct install of testing/sid. net install only.
i am using the Cinnamon desktop in full dark mode, its beautiful.

all the files, directories and libraries in the absolute right place in full logical order.
very settling for my mind, its like meeting an old friend again.

the system in VM is flying with 4 CPU’s and 8GB of ram set.
i think i may play around for a while.

That's a very provocative name for an OS. Cute, even. I like the Cinnamon desktop. Alas, my distro is no longer supported. I'm paying the price of having too many pokers in the fire and being too stubborn to move on to newer hardware. Fighting with Win11 has eaten up so much of my time and yeah, much of it is my own fault because I like complexity and I like my old hardware. That doesn't mean I don't comprehend the value of simplicity or I wouldn't even suggest that Microsoft should provide a bare bones OS. (Admittedly, I have ulterior motives for making that suggestion.)

4 CPU's ya say... 4 physical CPU's as in Xeon or... ??
You certainly have my attention.

4 virtual CPU's cores/threads of 8 cores available not 4 separate CPU's.

Mint Debian Edition uses the cinnamon desktop but uses Debian stable as its base.
Debian Testing is more like a rolling distro that stays updated for each and every release.

Linux Mint (LM) is based on Ubuntu LTS
Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE) is based on the latest Debian Stable which is Debian 12 'bookworm'
all the Debian names come from Toy Story.

the one i have in virtual box is Debian Testing. at the moment 'trixie' Debian 13 is in testing.
and just to add Ubuntu itself is based on Debian testing.

my apt sources update file is set to 'testing' so the install will just keep updating with the latest that goes into testing.

I'm pretty sure my LMDE distro is no longer supported. I'll have to check again, but I'm in the middle of a transition atm because I've been disconnecting drives for cannibalizing in preparation of my replacement build for my main PC. I may just reinstall Linux altogether but if I do it will def be a Debian distro as I have found it to be the most stable. Linux will be my primary OS on this 'new' build. I just don't have enough confidence to use Win11 as my primary OS.

well i have wiped Windows 11 24H2 and installed Debian testing
it took me about 2 hours install and setup the way i like it
SELinux, Apparmor, swap to ram and so on. but its now all back to normal for me

will put Win 11 in Gnome boxes

i have just installed Windows 11 24H2 into Gnome boxes on Debian Testing
Windows 24H2 is updating at this moment when its all complete i will post screen shots.

Looking forward to seeing them, Steve. The X299 SAGE platform is working out rather well on the test bench. So far I haven't found any faulty IO. Just finished installing the latest Mint (Cinnamon) Distro as my primary OS. It will be a while yet before I swap it out with my X99 board.

Windows 11 24H2 26100.3194 running in Gnome boxes on Debian 'Trixie' Testing
this has just been fully update and is running as expected.

just as a ps.
i used the Win 10 22H2 EFI/Boot partition to enable boot on Win 11 24H2 without access to TPM or SSE4.2
secure boot is enabled and had a firmware update via Debian Linux Gnome Firmware updater.

have you had in look at the reliability monitor to check for errors.
control panel > security and maintenance > view reliability history

Haven't done that yet. Had a lot of fun making it see all the RAM because it wasn't matched. It will be when I finally have it in my case but right now I'm just getting it configured to how I want it. Thank you for the reminder though. I'll be sure to have a peek.
