Sound card suddenly not found by Windows. Error = 'No audio device is installed'
I uninstalled McAfee antivirus several days ago and have not made any other changes until Windows attempted to autoinstall the Defender upgrade.
Looks to me like a failure of the latest Defender Antivirus installation KB2267602 1.421.822.0 - not sure about this.
Windows found corrupted files but is not able to correct the faults.
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
For online repairs, details are included in the CBS log file located at
windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For offline
repairs, details are included in the log file provided by the /OFFLOGFILE flag.
PS C:\Users\laure> DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth /Source:C:\Users\laure\OneDrive\Desktop\Script\Files /LimitAccess

This is way beyond my technical knowledge or ability. What do I do? Reinstall Windows 11?
Can anyone suggest a course of action?

Thanks

I would just run both of the following commands from an elevated command prompt or powershell.

Code:
sfc /scannow

dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

If corruption is found (and hopefully repaired) reboot and repeat these commands until there are no more corrupted files

You may need to review device manager afterward and valid the device is at least detected. Any yellow or red icons on the device means there is an issue and there should be a error code present.

Already tried that - could not find the source files to repair the issue.
thanks anyway

A bit more technical, but if you can download a windows ISO, mount it and then specific it as the source of the repair.

The WIM or ESD file will be in the ISO which you can mount the ISO as a CD and copy out the WIM or ESD file.
Then in with dism run
Code:
DISM.exe /Mount-Wim /WimFile:C:\test\images\myimage.wim /index:1 /MountDir:C:\test\offline
The WimFile and MountDir paths will need to point to valid file and directory locations on your system.
Assuming you did mount it to C:\test\offline then you would add to the repair command
Code:
dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:\test\offline

Assuming that it's the ASUS TUF Gaming A15 in "my computer", I wonder which exact model it might be?

(Two models are shown with the Ryzen 5 4600H.)

Maybe re-install the Realtek audio drivers?

I could be wrong, but I'd hope that the dism function would find any necessary Windows components. Third party stuff, maybe not.

I'm not optimistic that this will solve you issue, but I wish you luck.

Thank you all for your suggestions. After reinstalling the drivers, and trying to get Windows to track the corrupted source files I finally but the bullet and reinstalled Windows 11. A but drastic, but it worked.

Corrupted files? We have no logs to see what can't be repaired. You can copy the CBS log, zip it, upload zipped to any cloud provider, and post a Shared link to the file here.

That works. But it can be a lot of work.
