Delete Edge

Looks like the old way of deleting Edge, changing NoRemove from 1 to 0 in the registry, is broken on 24H2. Anyone know of another way to remove it without the use of a 3rd party program?

Microsoft Edge is a deeply integrated component of Windows 11. It's designed to be a core part of the operating system and MS continues to harden older methods of removing it. Other Windows components and services depend on Edge. Some here have managed to uninstall it but I certainly would not advise it. You don't have to use it. Disable it from auto starting, delete its shortcut, and forget about it.
Here's what MS says about removing it.
Microsoft Edge is the web browser recommended by Microsoft and is the default web browser for Windows. Because Windows supports applications that rely on the web platform, our default web browser is an essential component of our operating system and can’t be uninstalled. To provide our users with compatibility, compliance, accessibility, and performance, we'll continue updating Microsoft Edge through the browser installer or Windows updates.

Windows users can download and install other browsers and change their default browser at any time

I can tell you how to remove it, for it to never return. I can also tell you that you will regret it. glasskuter is correct in saying that it is deeply embedded into the Windows OS and many things rely on it.

After reading your other threads, my advice is to try to be as polite as possible when replying to members that are simply trying to help you.

Seems like this forum has gone down hill. It's not about being paranoid. It's about min/maxing.

I have had Edge uninstalled day 1 and never had any issues.

This worked for me.

Just did a test on my VirtualBox 24H2 26100-2605 system and could remove Edge from my system like before.
But I got a warning that several apps, being dependent of Edge, would no more function afterwards.
Did ignore that and clicked remove and it did.

I have to say that I live in the EU and that maybe MS has fulfilled special demands of the EU that all MS apps should be removable.

For normal practice I would never remove Edge. Using O&O I can disable most spying and in overall I seldomly use Edge anyway.
After test I put back the last snapshot in my VirtualBox and so everything I tested is undone again...

You can bypass Edge interacting with Windows without removing it.
If wanting to try, I’d suggest installing it in Active Mode unless you’re in the EU.
There is no fingerprint that I can see from running this once.

Sorry you feel that way. We donate a lot of time trying to help folks with legitimate ISSUES. We would be irresponsible if we did not give our best advise if we see a poster who wants to do something we feel to be detrimental to his system, either now or in the long run. Most appreciate it.
So if you feel that is "going downhill", you're entitled to your opinion.

yeah the entitlement can be mad sometimes. mine mine mine i will not do what others tell me even though i asked em too. Seems to be recurring threads popping up with the same old lets changed/improve things without it being broken in the first place.

I use this and only remove edge but keep WebView2 this program gives you the option
Never had an issue as I use Firefox as my main Browser

Also involved with Edge is the ability on program installations that relied upon Internet Explorer, still is a file in Windows 24H2, iexplore.exe, that will call up Edge when IE is called for. Try it in the Run box.

Since Edge is an integral part of windows ,I think we should focus on optimizing/debloating, and making it as lightweight as possiple.
any ideas, everyone ?

Which you can clearly see I do not have, in the Everything window.

Edit: Screenshot adjusted. Had a typo when I took it. But the result is the same, and Everything shows no such file.
