Hi. I have an unusual issue. Web searches dont bring up any instances of this problem. After a recent win 11 update, my desktop slideshow will work fine for a while, but when it changes images, it puts the new image back to back behind the first image on the desktop, that is, it doesnt remove the earlier first image ever. If the newer image is larger, I can see the edges of it behind the old image. If the new image is smaller, I cant see it at all. Right-clicking Next Desktop Background will get a new second image, but the first image will always stay on the screen. My themes and background settings are always set to Slideshow. What fixes the problem temporarily is if I re-click on my custom theme in the Themes options. If I then put the PC to sleep and wake it, the problem resurfaces. Any ideas anybody?

Thanks for replying, but you are misunderstanding the issue. In slideshow, when the image changed in the past, the current image would disappear to be replaced by a new one. Hence: Slideshow. :) After the latest large bi-annual update to windows, the screen image stays displayed, and the new image appears behind it. I can right-click and select Next Desktop Image and the new image changes just fine, but it still is displayed behind the one that should disappear. And like I said, re-clicking and re-selecting my custom theme in the options seems to fix the problem temporarily, until I put the PC to sleep, and then it resurfaces. It also seems to resurface on its own while the PC has not been put to sleep too. Thanks for trying to help, though. Its much appreciated.

i understood your post. but if you are able to see the image behind it, then it is either set to "fit" or "centered" and the sold color meant to fill in the gaps for wallpapers that are not the correct size is not functioning properly. i am unfamiliar with this glitch as i have not experienced it. setting it to "fill" will auto fill the screen (may cut off some of the excess) with the image, thus impossible for the image behind it to be showing at all.

I want "fit" as the setting as many of my pics are not in widescreen format and I dont want them to be stretched when displayed. When the issue occurs, the last image that was displayed as the desktop image before the initiation of sleep becomes the image on the front after the PC wakes. After the PC wakes, every image thereafter in the slideshow is displayed behind that one, even if I right-click on the desktop and choose "Next desktop background". In addition, yesterday, the color theme also changed once and I changed it back. I've run SFC and everything is good. Personally, I think the cause is how Win 11 handles the desktop when my PC is sleeping, since it always happens after waking since the last big windows update. Or maybe Nvidia drivers, idk, since they update almost twice a month now sometimes... The PC was fine before.

I have a similar problem in that when my computer starts it does so normally and shows the existing wallpaper which "fills" the screen, As I have the machine settings set to slideshow it changes to a new background for a second or two then reverts back to the original. I am always left with the same background even though there are 8 photos in the folder. Ive just updated to 24H2 no issues prior to that

SOLVED: I have just resolved my Windows 11 glitch, and I recreated it to confirm it is a Windows 11 glitch. With desktop slideshow enabled and working correctly, I unclicked "Show Desktop Icons" after right-clicking on the desktop and selecting "View". With all desktop icons off the screen, I put my PC to sleep, then woke it up immediately thereafter. Then clicked on "Next desktop background" after right-clicking on the desktop, and the problem happens. Now, re-click on "Show Desktop Icons" to show them, and the slideshow works perfectly again. Anybody get the same results?

sounds more like a faulty auto refresh of desktop. what is your desktop location set to?
Win+R > %userprofile% > Right click on Desktop > Properties > Location

The location is the path to the Desktop folder.

24H2 has caused weird slideshow bugs for some people. When I first converted my little laptop the slideshow would stop working and stay on one image even though it was changing in the slideshow settings. I would have to change a theme in order for it to start working again. However any time I rebooted, logged off, or put it to sleep the slideshow stopped working again till I changed themes. This went on for months and a few different versions of 24H2. Then one day out of the blue it started working properly again without a WU and has worked properly ever since. I have desktop icons disabled and didn't think to try enabling them to see if that would have made a difference at the time.
