Dev Build ISO vs. Dev Insider Channel

Is it the same if i install latest Dev Build from ISO or Join Dev Channel? I'm testing in VMware Workstation Pro.

Advantage of using the iso is if you get it from places like UUPDUMP is that you dont have to join Windows insider, you can use things like dism /ApplyImage as well as the classical setup.exe and you can if need by bypass hardware requirements for W11 which the WU method often checks. Also using the iso lets you install to physical vhdx files if you want that option.

Note on workstation pro ensure you enable a TPM (either real if you have one or emulated if you don't) and set the vm config to boot from UEFI and SEC boot.

As a tip if you need Host / Guest communication on VMware select bridged networking -it's a lot less hassle than NAT which doesn't allow HOST- GUEST communication. Lack of IP addresses won't be a problem with modern internet so needing a unique one when using Bridged networking shouldn't be a problem.

Also on the GUEST remember to install VMWare tools once you've installed W11 and reached the fisrt boot after all the OOBE and install stuff. This should then give better mouse / video etc on the GUEST system.

It should be the same, but you may find that to get offered each new Dev build in Windows Update you may need to enrol in the Dev Channel. You can do this without joining Insiders with this script.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Dev, Beta, and RP 24H2 as native boot vhdx.
