Why would an external optical drive device burn CDs one time and then the next time it doesn't show up in my Windows Media Player in Windows 11? Also, what can I do to correct this?

Have you tried unplugging and plug back in? One of mine ejects when I eject the disc, seems to cut the power to the drive and replugging resets it.

Yes. I always unplug it and plug it back in because it's in the way when I'm not using it. Also, I've tried plugging it in both the front and the back USB ports and even with the small USB-C port in the front. However, it's just not showing up anymore in my Windows Media Player, even though it showed up the first time that I used it and I was able to burn CDs.

Is Folder Options, View tab set to Show empty drives? Mine is set so I can see it on the right panel when clicking This PC but don't get it in the left panel until putting in a disc.

Could you elaborate a bit more on that?

However, under the "Hidden files and folders," the "Don't show hidden files, folder, or drives" is highlighted. So, should I unhighlight that and highlight the "Show hidden files, folders, and drives"?

Well, that didn't do anything. But the thing that I don't understand is how my Window Media Player could be one way one day, and then different the next day. Because no one changed it as far as I know.

Also, with my Windows 10 computer, I didn't have worry about all this. My Windows Media Player just functioned the right way.

Okay. I just noticed from my screen shot where it says, "Connect a burner and restart player." (That's a new one on me.) Therefore, it's working now. Problem solved.
