So, open notepad, type something, move the window down out of the way of something else you're doing so it's partially off the screen, close notepad, er.... how do I click save?

Mine does that on a second monitor, but not the main one with the taskbar on it. Only thing I can think of is I use startallback which modifies the taskbar.

Then I don't know why my computer is being different. I play games, perhaps Radeon software is messing about? I've used it to for example change the brightness when in a game and fit the screen onto a monitor which doesn't do that right, but that shouldn't interfere with dialog box positions surely?

Not sure what you mean by "native notepad". I just use what came with Windows 11, which looks like your first screenshot, there are tabs in notepad now.

I don't know what UWP means. I use the notepad which appears in the start menu. I assumed it had been upgraded recently as it's added tabs, which is nice. Are you telling me there are two versions on my computer? Why would you want the old one? And if it means having the dialog centre screen, even if the program isn't, that's a downside not an upside.

Actually, I just tried running c:\windows\notepad.exe, and I still got the new tabbed one.

It doesn't look like a store app, and I've never gone to the store for notepad. The only app I did get from there looked like it belonged on a mobile phone. In fact as far as I know I disabled store apps as a byproduct of doing something else.

How do you get those screenshots? I've never seen a window like that. It's nothing like what I see from either "control panel - programs and features" or "settings - apps".

The new UWP Notepad replaced the native one automatically, a while back.
To enable the native one, you have to uninstall the new one, then enable the old one through apps/Optional Features.

I think I'll do that, I've gone off the tabs. Notepad is too simple a program to have tabs, I prefer to have them seperate, especially having 5 monitors. I sometimes place one file over there and one over there. There seems to be no way to turn the tabs off! Typical MS dictating personal preferences.

But where is it to uninstall? It's not listed under notepad or Microsoft notepad in control panel / programs and features.

However I DO have the classic listed in optional features, I just can't run it!

Ahhh! Didn't think of that method. Although you can't do it from MRU list. I had to search for it. Not sure where it actually lies in the start menu as it wasn't under N!

Ha! Now it asked me if I wanted the new version. Thankfully closing that banner makes it not ask again. Hopefully. I'll probably get bugged once a week, or it'll get classed as a security update and my PC will reboot while I'm using it as usually happens, I lost loads of unsaved work once.

I've had to do that a lot when Windows gets stupid and puts stuff off my screen, just because my multi monitor config (or just the resolution) is different to when I last ran the program.

Not needed here though, I can just drag it up. It was annoying though.
