I have been bouncing around between patch my pc and winget and really like them. I also Heard update hub and Ucheck are good as well.

Just was curious what you guys do to keep your software patched at home?

If your doing it manually, your missing out!

Just recently got into winget the last time I installed Windows. Worked a treat, so now I have scripts for work when I need to install a set of apps on a PC the first time I use it.

I’ve done Patch My PC implementations in a couple orgs. Software is pretty nice, and the folks behind the company are great. (Not a paid endorsement, just a product and company I like.)

I used to be your typical hopper. I've even sadistically setup LFS and Arch. I use Mint as my daily driver, I bounce between Parrot (red teaming), Remnux (malware forensics) and SansSift for general forensic work

Forgot Windows...
Gaming of course, lightroom and photoshop for photography and my drumming software

If yiou are asking why I do not use an updater, the main reaon is "They are a solution to a probem that I do not have".

Virtually all quality tools have an option to check for updates (some automatic via a service or Task Scheduler - personally I turn these off).

I bet "none" covers well over 85+% of users. I have no real evidence to support this assertion, other than saying I do not know of anybody personally who uses such tools.

I handle enough family and friends pcs, and pretty sure I would be aware if such tools were in use.

Sure, but its manual one at a time. I mean if you want to update your software manually that's of course up to you. I added a none option.

It's important for security reasons for software to be kept up to date, So I try to make things easier for myself and users who I help to keep things up to date.

Patch my pc makes the process automatic for the apps it supports which helps a lot.

When I'm notified of an update to an app then I can decide for myself if I want the update, If I do want it i'll read about it and usually wait a while to see if the update has issues. Blindly updating any software is, IMO, foolhardy.

Thats fair. You can exclude programs like these from updating automatically for the program itself or just let you know if there are updates without installing them. But things like browsers, 7 zip, vlc etc I think its worth it.
