I am running W11 Home so I cannot use Policy solutions to problems. I find latest Edge back to delaying page loads for several seconds if they are not already in the cache. So I would like to know if there is a way to install an older stable version? It seems to be a state secret where to get non-msi x64 installers for say 113 or earlier? When I try to install an older msi of course it blocks me. I do not know why since other browser like Opera will let you install an older version replacing a newer one. Sometimes that is the easiest way to bail out of unwanted features that glitch.

I know I found a build tree of old edge browser installers maybe a month ago. I sure can't find it now though. Any secret links appreciated. :)

Even if you did manage to install an older version of Edge I think it will get updated to the latest version shortly after. Unless there is a way to stop Edge being updated?

I just rename this C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate\MicrosoftEdgeUpdate.exe to
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate\MicrosoftEdgeUpdateNOT.exe

When you do About in help the circle spins forever. So the downside is it prevents using About to check the current version number.

Come to think of it I must have been able to downgrade using an exe offline installer or I would not have been able to revert to a reliable version. The issue seems to be that these exe installers have been removed or hidden. When I download an exe offline installer I always add the build number onto the name of the file and x64 so I am sure it is for 64 bit. Makes it easier to downgrade later if I try some new versions out.

If you wanted download links for older Edge installers, use Chocolatey's website. You don't need to install Chocolatey, but all their install scripts preserve the app's download URL.

1. Open Version History, select an older release.
2. On the new page, click on > Files to expand the view.
3. Click the Show button.
4. The download links will be presented in the script.

For example, Edge 112.0.1722.64:
Code:
$url32 = 'https://msedge.sf.dl.delivery.mp.microsoft.com/filestreamingservice/files/65417891-a6ee-4e28-9a6f-019e8b0aef81/MicrosoftEdgeEnterpriseX86.msi'
$url64 = 'https://msedge.sf.dl.delivery.mp.microsoft.com/filestreamingservice/files/f6b85cef-c6fe-469d-aa76-a72fd840d6cb/MicrosoftEdgeEnterpriseX64.msi'

I guess I'll just put up with it. I found some downloads such as development version but they install 32 bit browser that disappears after running for 8 seconds. Weird way to do things.

Heh heh. I do admit to using a "stop update" type of freeware. Seems to work well but I haven't tried turning it off to deliberately update something. Everything still seems to work. :-) Well, most everything. I don't know why I like using Edge. It seems like I use a browser for years and have everything just the way I want it right before it deletes my dials, starts crashing, etc.. So I have to make something else the default.

For many years I used Opera 8.52. Small and fast. I used Firefox for a long time. Often installed the Nightly build to check it out. Chromium Portable was fast and open source. Way back at the beginning I used Netscape Navigator 1.x-7.0. I even used Mosaic if you can believe that.

No matter what it is it sours after a couple of years. The pita is often you can't use your speeddial in a different browser. Now I like stuff derived from chrome since at times I can use the same chrome extensions I am used to in whatever browser I am forced to switch to.

Opera has its own speeddial which messes up importing dials from other browsers. Always some fly in the ointment. :-)
