EDGE is taking over my ability to type searches, it's bad

I can hardly type anything without it interjecting something else.
Edge makes text changes continually as I type, contrary to what I am typing.
CAN it be turned OFF?

Thinking of switching now to chrome.

I am typing in, for searches, and it totally overwrites my typing with something else, not related at all.
Then I go back and try and fix it, and it keeps doing it!

Only fix so far is delete the entire line as if something is there it makes text changes continually as I type.

Edge is making stupid guesses! that are not needed or wanted.
It has to be some crappy AI thing.

There are five things you can disable at Edge, Settings, Languages, Writing assistance.

Enable grammar and spellcheck assistance.

I have that toggled On > Basic

And if all that doesn't work try Firefox. I don't use Chrome, prefer Chromium. And there's SeaMonkey which includes an E-Mail Client, a number of others at Download Browsers Tools for Windows - MajorGeeks.

it's probably text prediction. Turned off and turned off other things mentioned including copilot stuff.

I use vs2022 and it also out of the box is horrible about predicting what you want and filling in some really stupid code.
It is not even suggesting anything, it just changes text as your typing.
I know how to type, I type in code, and look up to screen and wow crazy stuff it does.
I have also seen it so bad; it wipes out working sub routines in areas you're not even typing in and you are not aware of the code changes till you run it and find out it's not working anymore.

Turned off things in there too, but it still can do it sometimes.

EDGE still prompting with unwanted text on the typing in line.

I tested Chrome and it does not do that, it shows text below where you are typing not on the line you are typing.

Once MS makes something do something it is hard to get it to stop.

Doesn't do it for me. Have you disabled all your edge extensions to see if it stops?

It's in your settings. Easily stopped but without knowing what settings you've chosen, and what add-ons/extensions you've installed, it's a bit hard to advise further

There's more than that can be done to take control. Open Edge Settings and search for all entries predict

No, it's Edge, it's Windows. The sun doesn't shine out of every Microsoft's porthole. Be Brave, look outside the square

Vivaldi
Opera
Chrome
etc
etc

But you may still have to learn/understand the role and functions of the available settings. The download and acceptance of default settings is not going to satisfy everyone.

This am It stopped doing it. But I had rebooted.
I also turned off use synonyms for text prediction or something like it.
It no longer is forcing text predictions on the search line as I type.

When it was doing it, edge would force whole phrases sometime highlighted in blue in the middle of my typing in something, and actually change sometimes words to nonsense combinations of letters.

BUT, I have seen on updates things get reset, so this likely I will have to do over and over changing settings.

Thanks for this..... Didn't realize they had snuck AI assistance in predictive text. That's off now....
