Empty Folders after Cut/Paste....can I get my files back????

Instead of Copying....I used Cut/Paste to move some folders to a new location.
Now they're empty....How can I get those files back please??

There is a free program called Recuva... that "might" be able to retrieve your files.

When you do a Cut & Paste, the files you Cut will be found in the Recycle Bin.

In the meantime....I've installed Recuva (free)....and can see all the missing files.
Looks like I can't Multi-select.....and need to tick each one individually.
Does Free Recuva have file size limits??

I don't know. It's been years since I needed to use it.
Also...look in the unlikely places too. I'd bet there's a multi select somewhere.

Aren't the files you Cut now in the place you Pasted them?

If the recycle bin is set to auto-delete files... then after a "cut" they would NOT show up in the recycle bin.

No....not setup for Auto Delete.
CUT seems to have removed folders from Source.....but PASTE has only created EMPTY folders at the Destination
DATA must have gone somewhere.....in fact RECUVA can see the lost files.....but the first selection I attempted to recover hasn't worked.

Do you mean the folders moved, but were empty in the new location? If so, and you haven't restarted Windows or Explorer yet, then you may have an 'undo' option in Explorer's ... menu.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

Can't get back to that position...
Folders were CUT/PASTED to an External SSD...then moved to another PC....then found that Folders were empty.

Well then, a recovery program on your original drive is your best chance.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.
