Devices Enable or Disable Camera On/Off OSD Indicator in Windows 11

Camera_app_banner.webp

This tutorial will show you how to enable or disable the Camera on and Camera off on-screen display (OSD) indicator for all users in Windows 10 and Windows 11.

NoPhysicalCameraLED indicates that there is no physical LED for the device’s camera. An example of a physical LED for a camera is the small blue light that turns on whenever the camera is streaming video. This setting is used to indicate to the shell component that it will need to provide a small indicator in the user interface (UI) to show when video frames are streaming or not streaming to replace the notification by physical LED.

If you set the NoPhysicalCameraLED DWORD value to 1 (enable), users will see a Camera on and Camera off on-screen display (OSD) indicator above the taskbar for few moments whenever the camera has been turned on or off.

Reference:

You must be signed in as an administrator to enable or disable Camera on and Camera off on-screen display (OSD) indicator.

Hi, brink, thank you for this tutorial. I have bought the web cam which is working correctly. I searched for a software to show the status of the camera on the desktop itself near tray icon, so that , if we forgot to close the camera, there is risk of our showing in cameras all around us. The enable light on OSD is a kind of boon to know, the status. But could you , make the letters off on indicator to stay there, to know the status on evry minute of the browsing. or is there a software that i could use like a brightness slider to adjust brightness , by icon, to every user to his eye capabilities. A kind of software or tweak that would be always on the system tray, . I think that will be a better for everyone to switch on and off on the desktop itself without there being open status always.
Even your reg works beautifully, but I want the indicator for few seconds to be made available permanently on all the top of the browser or anything so that one could see the camera status and do the needful to close it if they do not want or missed to close the shutter physically.
could you add a few lines in reg file, so that this works flawlessly. I tested the reg file and it is a boon and there is no need to disable the warning of indication. camera on, camera off

Hello, :alien:

I'm afraid I haven't seen a way to keep this indicator to stay until manually closed.

Hi, I searched and found a useful software , free I think ,that can be started using task scheduler and you can disable enable the camera access.
WebCam On-Off v1.4
this software if it is in open stage, you could control access to camera
