I use Excel for lot more than number crunching. It keeps track of my ancestry information, links, etc. I am not sure how to explain what I am looking for, it is show/ hide a row(s). For example, let's say 3x Great- Grandpa Osmund is listed on his own worksheet, with the names of his sons and daghters. To enter the names of the descendants of Generation 2, and each of their family down through the generations, would be a nightmare for clarity.

But as I have G2 Erik on his own line, and his own kids on the G3 lines, and so on
If I could make G3 or G4 (or both) disappear back up with a mouse click,
then I can have my clarity and understand it too.

What would I search for to learn how to do this?
No javascript, way too complicated.
Some searches I found mentioned the rows will show down when I click on a word.
That might work but I want to row(s) to go up and down (show/hide) with a mouse click.

Plus, not everyone has the latest and greatest Excel, so this should be something older versions of Excel can do.

But isn't VBA unsfe? Some relatives aren't too experienced in computers. Also, if javasacript were turned off on their's it would course have to be turned on for this sheet/ workbook.

If you write the code yourself, what's unsafe about it?
JavaScript and VBA are totally different things.
The idea of writing a macro within a sheet is to make it transparent to the user and to automate things.
You can have a button named Show or Hide, and all the users need to do would be to click on that cell.
You can protect the spreadsheet and lock it preventing any unwanted 'changes'.
Give it a chance, you will be impressed by its power.
