I have a USB HD connected to my Win 11 Pro computer and I exported some emails to a folder and the files in an archive folder can't be moved to any folder. If I go to a regular folder on this HD I can move files just fine. Something strange must have happened to these folders when exporting the emails. I've tried all sorts of methods: right click and dragging and selecting Move, Control-X and clicking in the destination folder and hitting Control-P. Nothing works. I'm baffled

Control-P ? Your trying to print it? i guess you mean ctrl+v

Have you tried taking ownership of the files again, and then move/copy it?

thats really odd. i know you have admin rights, but lets make sure all permissions are correct in all sub directories as well.
run the attached registry key. then right click on the source file and click "Take Ownership" entry. If you still have the native Windows 11 context menu, you'll have to click "Show more options" first.

This HD just died. I guess that's why it was acting so weird. It didn't show up as a USB HD on 2 different computers, but now it's shown up after the light on it was blinking. Now it's solid and shows up. I'll run some tests on it

    …still on a horse.
The Powershell was going to take 22 hours, so I stopped it. Maybe there a different test I can run. The HD has been as of last night in a Win 10 computer and I still can't move the files. So I decided to move the 10,000 files that I was able to successfully move back to the strange folder. I can do what I want by moving the folder and maybe renaming it. So this has nothing to do with Win 11, my guess is when I exported the EML files from EM Client, it created that weird frozen folder

Every time I export EM Client creates an Archive folder with many sub folders underneath. The bottom folder in that chain was the problem, so I just moved that folder where I wanted it and renamed it and put the EML folders in a more orderly group. After doing this I went to the problem folder and it still won't let me move files from it. I deleted the empty archive folder. Since I didn't have a similar problem with the other folders that were also under an archive folder, I'll chalk this up to just a quirk. You can see the folder structure a few posts up when I tried robocopy

Gerry, I'm not an eM client user and have absolute zero knowledge about it but I've been observing your posts about these issues a while now. You use both terms, archive folder and regular folder, but there is difference in the two.

Look at this article, if you haven't already. Go down to Archive vs local folders eM Client - Email Client and Calendar Software for Windows and Mac
I've read it 5 times. It says there are differences, but not being an emclient user, I don't understand what those differences are. Maybe the vague description will mean something to you and in some way account for your issues.

The way I read it, an archive folder is only used for emails. You can not archive calendar or contacts. A local folder contains emails, contacts, and more. I also read it to say the contents of these folders can be accessed only using EMClient. So to my way of thinking your would have to enable local folders in EM Client and do any moving within Emclient. Like I said I don't know squat about it. Just going by that article.,
