It is for my "eufy" security cam (to watch barn cats) which suddenly doesn't work. I unplugged the cam to move it, plugged it back in and the cam still works but it won't record anymore. It tells me to format the SD card -- which has been in there since October 2023 when I bought the cam. The live cam and recordings have worked perfectly since I set it up back then.

I can't recall having to format any portable drives since floppies, TBH. It won't reformat through the iPhone app, so I tried an identical brand-new SD card, but it won't format that one either. I contacted "eufy" help but all I get is stupid AI replies.

So I plugged both into this laptop, but it doesn't recognize them, no beeps, popups or anything. ???

Have you tried right-clicking the SD card from This PC and select format?

Unfortunately, it is possible that the SD card has become read only. Some people have had success using Rufus to format the card when other utilitis fail.

i would copy all the stuff on the card and just buy a new one.

I tried an identical brand-new one yesterday per my OP -- same results, my laptop doesn't "see" either one.

Is the card locked?
Little slider on side of card.
This is one of those tiny cards, the size of your fingernail. I don't see anything moveable on it.

Back to the root and beginning of the problem: The cam and recording feature have worked perfectly since October 2023 when I set it up. Yesterday I unplugged the cam and moved it to a different outlet, maybe 10 feet away (it has been unplugged numerous times before and no issues). I did not remove or even touch the card.

Since yesterday the original card, and a brand-new one, say they need to be formatted. The iphone app won't do it, and my laptop doesn't recognize either card when I plug them in.

Is the second card also a Eufy? I suggest you buy a well-known brand.

Are you using any anti-virus anti-malware?

disk management not seeing it at all is not a good sign. may be bad. try this method:

insert the micro sd card into your pc
open Command Prompt as Admin
type the following commands
Code:
diskpart
Code:
list disk
take a screenshot of the output and post it here
