Hi forum,

Google has started to provide a new free VPN app recently, they call it "Outline". That needs to create a private key on a Linux server. There are some free keys (on the Outline website) but they don't work! Does anyone know how it works? The Internet has been limited in my region recently. Here is no WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, Skype and sometimes even no Internet here (since two weeks ago). I don't know if this limitation is temporary or forever (it seems social apps probably would be censored forever)! I want to make my VPN (a free one) to use just for messaging (family abroad V-Call) not for downloading. I'm frustrated, it's a headache...

If you want to use linux and a vpn -- try open-vpn. OK a little bit of a hassle setting it up but it's then under 100% your control.
Plenty of info on Google on how to set that up. Then there's all sorts of other possibilities -- on Linux set up Apache as web server etc.

You can also pay for a unique hosted domain - but if you go down that route you get beholden into the domain server.

Have a look at open-vpn and mess around with it in a VM -- then if it all goes pearshaped just delete the VM and start again.

Once it's working then change traffic to https with a "Virtual server" rather than http -- but get the thing working on a local internal LAN first.

Cheers

I had a try before (about one year ago), but that needs a Linux server. Do you know a free Linux server (cloud server)? Google, AWS and DigitalOcean are not free, and I don't need their bandwidth per month offers (0.5-1 GB per month is enough for me to message). In "Outline" we can add a server that set it up automatically, with no hassle with those complicated commands.

@Fabler2, Can you tell me what that is saying? I understand none of them!

No server certificate verification method has benn enabled. See: How To Guide: Set Up & Configure OpenVPN Client/server VPN | OpenVPN
Then:
I think that has been blocked, too. 12 apps have been installed on our Android phones, and none of them is working! 🤷‍♂️
What an idiot thing is Politics!

I don't know if this will do what you want or not. I know very little about VPNs. I use CyberGhost 8 on my laptop.

@Winuser, Many thanks.

The first VPN service that has been blocked was CyberGhost (of course, in my region)!!! Last night our Internet was disabled again from 8-11:59 PM!! Last night, Insta and WhatsApp (our last working social net apps) were blocked forever!!! We can't even call our family (abroad) with Skype (Skype made calling free for us this week, but has been blocked!). This is disgusting. I don't know what I have to do. I don't need VPN (in a normal situation I barely use it, or almost don't use it). Why do I have to Tunnel the web to see a webpage (like 11F)???!!!

Britec's video was excellent, but it doesn't work here (SS above)!

Sorry to hear that. The closest experience that I've encountered is that when I'm using my cellphone, I haven't been able to access oan.com from a browser. I installed the app and so far, that's working. When I'm home and phone is connected to my Wi-Fi, I can access oan.com. I have searched to see if my carrier is blocking access to the website but haven't found anything. This disinformation bull is a pain.

Many thanks for your help 🙏. The cellphone carrier here is much generous than your carrier!!! It has blocked everything except their own websites (Reverese Engineering)!!!!! Even Calling with phones was blocked for about 2 hours, this morning (no text messages and phone calls)!!! 🤷‍♂️ Every time something happens here, they cut the Net (Internet)!!! It usually takes half a day (no-net situation) but this time it has lasted two weeks and will continue...

I don't know what you say in British/English, I think there is a disastrous mess now (of course, in my region). I hate rage, and mess. One of my friends has found a way to bypass but it works from time to time (is not always working). "Cisco AnyConnect" app! I don't know what the hell is that but I'll go for it soon (to see if it works). Another problem, I have to install the app on iPhone (I don't have iPhone, that's my ❤️'s iPhone). But AppStore is blocked here (also Apple has banned us!!!!!!)!!!!! I have to find the "ipa" file and install and check if it works! I don't know how can I get the hell "ipa" file from!!!!!
Why should I solve such a infinite equation?!!
